Codex Club of Department of Computer Application, Uttaranchal Institute of Management organized “The Mind Fizz” – an Online Quiz Competition on 19th February, 2020. “The Mind Fizz”, as the name denotes, is all about identifying and embracing the best performers from a galore of budding talents in the field of computing. The event emphasized on sharpening technical skills of students using a gamut of quizzes for their subjective assessment, which in turn, will significantly contribute towards enhancement of their employability prospects in the industry.
The commencement of the event was marked with the felicitation of Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Suri, (Director-UIM), Dr. Sonal Sharma (HoD-IT) and Dr. Anshul Sharma, (HoD-Mgmt.). Dr. Pradeep Suri addressed the students with an electrifying speech followed by a motivational speech by Dr. Sonal Sharma to the students who were looking forward to the event enthusiastically.
In all, 80 students from different courses of Computer Application participated in the event which encapsulated 3 progressive stages in terms of increasing competency-levels. Each stage comprised of 30 questions with time-limit of 30 minutes. The scoring pattern was +2 for every correct answer, -1 for every incorrect answer, and no negative marking for un-attempted questions. The participating students effectively used their acumen by showcasing their abilities in all three stages of the competitive event based on the screening at each stage. At the end of First Round, 21 students were selected for Round 2. For the third and the final stage of assessment top 10 scorers were selected.
The panel of judges included Dr. Sonal Sharma, Dr. Monisha Awasthi and Dr. Himani Maheshwari who judged the participants of the event. The Winner and Runners-Up were adjudged on the basis of the judgment and score.
Top two scorers in the culmination round were awarded positions which were as follows:
I Position : Anos Singh (MCA-IV)
II Position : Abhishek Negi (MCA-IV)
The unique aspect of this event was that the software, on which the online quiz was conducted, was an outcome of the ardent efforts incurred by the students of Uttaranchal Institute of Management (UIM).
The event proved to be a grand success by virtue of the immaculate efforts of Ms. Vijaylakshmi Sajwan (Faculty Coordinator of the Event) and her team members, viz., Mr. Sameer Dev Sharma and Mr. Dharmendra Kumar. The Student Coordinators for the event were Samiya Siddhiqui [B.Sc. (IT)-VI], Subham Kumar Sinha [BCA-III], Rohan Kumar[BCA-IV], Akarsh Jaguri [B.Sc.(IT)-IV], Deepanshi Kalra [BCA-IV], Gulshan Pal [B.Sc.(IT)-IV], Himanshu Pundir (B.Sc.(IT)-IV] and Vivek Kumar (B.Sc.(IT)-VI].
The event turned out to be a huge success with the active support of Mr. Praveen Saini (Assistant Professor, UIM), Mr. Amarjeet Rawat (Assistant Professor, UIM), Mr. Anand Rawat (Lab In-charge, UIM) and Mr. Snoop Bisht (Lab Assistant, UIM).
