School of Applied and Life Sciences observes ‘World Food Day 2020’

‘World Food Day 2020’ was celebrated in Uttaranchal University on 16th October 2020 by School of Applied and Life Sciences (SALS). On this occasion, a Guest Lecture and online events were organized by the Department of Food Technology.

The introductory session was hosted by Er. Bhawna Bisht, Organizer of the Event. She welcomed Prof. (Dr.) Devendra Pathak, Vice Chancellor of Uttaranchal University, Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh, Principal of School of Applied and Life Sciences and Dean-Research, Guest Speaker Dr. U. C. Lohani, Assistant Professor from G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Dr. V. K. Srivastava, Dr. Bharti Ramola, and other faculty members of Uttaranchal University. The aim of the event was to reflect this year’s World Food Day theme “Grow, Nourish and Sustain Together” on eradicating chronic food deprivation.

The session began with the gracious blessing and guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh, Principal – School of Applied and Life Sciences (SALS) and Dean- Research as the Chairman of the Event. He welcomed Hon’ble Vice Chancellor and the Guest Speaker of the event. He motivated and encouraged all the participants. He also congratulated the team of Food Technology Department for conduction of the online World Food Day Celebration Programme.

Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Devendra Pathak congratulated all the Faculty Members of Department of Food Technology for conduction of the programme and shared his valuable knowledge focussing on the use of food waste management.

The Guest Speaker, Dr. U. C. Lohani initiated his talk and described the role of hydrodynamic cavitation in foods industry and gave real examples from food industry. He discussed how food acts as a catalyst for societal transformation, development and expansion.

The session was further anchored and managed by Meenakshi Pathak, Final Year Student of M. Sc. Food Technology and Chahat, B.Sc. Food Technology 2nd Year Student, to welcome all the participants to showcase their talent and share their thoughts on the occasion of World Food Day. This event witnessed student participation in various events such as presentations and nutritious food preparation. Participants included Ayushi, Jaya, Palak, Saumya, Ritesh, Aradhrana, Nishi, Shreya Bharadwaj, Jigyasa Rajput, to mention a few.

The whole event was organized and coordinated by Dr. Shilpa Sharma and Er. Bhawna Bisht along with Organizing Members Mr. Prateek Gururani, Ms. Nitika Rathi, Mr. Rajeev Kumar.

At the end of the event, Vote of Thanks was delivered by Er. Bhawna Bisht. More than 85 students participated in this event. Faculty Members, namely, Dr.Poonam Negi, Dr. Nishesh Sharma, Dr. Waseem, Dr. Naveen Joshi, Mr. Shivam Pandey were present on the occasion.
