Webinar cum Awareness Programme on “Role of Youth against Drug Abuse” on International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” was organized by Department of Biotechnology, School of Applied & Life Sciences (SALS) on 26thJune, 2020. The programme started with welcome address and introduction about the webinar by Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh (Principal-SALS) in which he emphasized on the significance of conducting such programmes and focusing on creating awareness among youth against drug abuse. The programme was graced by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna who motivated the organizers and welcomed the experts and participants. He discussed about prevailing trend of drug abuse and a mandatory requirement to pursue effective measures to retract the same.
Dr. Shanti Bhushan Misra (Head, Deptt. of Pharmacognosy, United Institute of Pharmacy, Allahabad) delivered an effective informative talk on the causes & consequences of drug abuse and how can everyone contribute in controlling drug abuse.
Another talk was delivered by Dr. Saurabh Saini, (Secretary, Vidhyawati Foundation, Roorkee) who along with his view on increasing trend of drug abuse in youth also emphasized on role of yoga and meditation in recovering from drug addiction.
There were about 170 registered participants. There was active participation from students in Poster and Video Presentation. Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. Nishesh Sharma (H.O.D. Biotechnology, SALS) in which sincere gratitude was expressed towards Hon’ble Chancellor Shri Jitender Joshi for extending his kind support and encouragement for organizing the webinar. Respected Vice Chancellor, Uttranchal University and Principal – SALS were also thanked for their valuable presence. The webinar was co-ordinated by Dr. Rohit, Dr. Vivekanand, Dr. Rakesh Matura, Dr Archana and Ms Ankita.
