A VISIT TO A SLUM AREA

GLOBE CLUB (Global Learning and Observation to Benefit the  Environment) of Uttaranchal Institute of Management, Uttaranchal University, conducted a social activity named  ‘A Visit to a Slum Area’ on August 12, 2017. Our Chancellor, Shri. Jitendra Joshi, Vice Chancellor Dr. N.K. Joshi, Dean and Director Dr. PardeepSuri, Principal Law College Dr. Rajesh Bahuguna, Dean Research UIM Dr. D.S. Choubey and HODs of all departments graced the occasion by their benign presence.

The activity was pursued by Head –GLOBE  CLUB, Dr. MamtaBansal (Assistant Professor, Environmental Science) under the guidance of Prof. Pradeep Suri (Director, UIM).  To carry out this activity, UIM faculty, staff, and some students donated old, but fine looking clothes, which were collected under a campaign entitled  ‘EkKapdaDaan’ to the underprivileged people near Nanda Ki Chowki, Premnagar, Dehradun and spread awareness about prevention of dengue among them.

The awareness material against dengue (which is on the rise during rainy season), in the form of pamphlets, was also distributed among the women and the youngsters residing in the slums.  There is a lot of difference between donating clothes and simply throwing them away. It also saves the environment through the adoption of  3R’s formula (Recycle, Reuse and Reduce). Such deeds strengthen the emotional health of the students and ignite the feelings of  compassion among them.
