To kindle the sportsman spirit amidst the youth, Uttaranchal University, Dehradun is organizing its first Sushila Devi Memorial Interuniversity Volley Ball Tournament at its sprawling University Campus from 5th -7th of November, 2019, under the aegis of Law College Dehradun. The mega event which is to continue for three days was inaugurated at the jam-packed Seminar Hall with the lighting of the auspicious lamps followed by the recital of the University Kulgeet. Ms. Shiva Chaudhary, a renowned National Volley Ball Player presided as the Chief Guest of the occasion while Hon’ble Chancellor Shri. Jitender Joshi, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) N. K. Joshi and Director – Student Affairs and IT Services of the University Dr. Abhishek Joshi were the distinguished guests of the occasion. The event commenced with the felicitation of the Chief Guest with a bouquet of flowers by the Chancellor followed by a formal inauguration of the event at the University Volley Ball Ground.
Principal and Dean, Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee proudly stated that about 32 teams from across the country were participating in the Tournament. Players from prestigious universities and colleges of the country got themselves enlisted for the competition which speaks volumes about the toughness of the contest.
Hon’ble Chancellor of the University Shri. Jitender Joshi reiterated the commitment of the University towards ensuring all-round development of the personality of the students. He also expressed, “Sports activities are the integral part of university curriculum and such competitions provide solid platform for grooming sports talents in the country”.
Ms. Shiva Chaudhary, in her address, said that participation of 31 renowned teams in the first tournament in Dehradun is unprecedented. She called for the Women Volley Ball Players to come forward and participate in State Level Tournaments. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the organizers for the reverence bestowed on her and offered to provide all possible assistance towards grooming talented sports persons in the University.
