NSS Wing of Uttaranchal University celebrates ‘World Environment Day’

The theme for “World Environment Day 2017” was ‘Connecting People to Nature – in the city and on the land, from the poles to the equator’. With this theme Uttaranchal University decided to celebrate the “World Environment Day” on 5th June 2017. The University gave it a local colour while upholding the international theme and spirit. National Service Scheme (NSS) of the University planned a forestation drive in the surrounding rural areas of the University campus with the blessings of the Hon’ble Chancellor. The student volunteers came forward by themselves. There was yet another purpose of the campaign and that was to spread the awareness among the common masses- how they could keep the environment and the natural resources clean.

The volunteers did a praiseworthy job by using all their knowledge and skills to give it a form of a real festival where people were motivated to ensure that no trees will be cut in the area and were further educated regarding the disposal of waste material.

The volunteers were provided necessary guidance before they initiated the event. While concluding the event the Hon’ble Chancellor of the University said that “Our natural environment makes human life possible, and our cultural environment helps define who we are. It is therefore essential that our population and economic growth are environmentally sustainable”.
