Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences organizes a National Seminar on “Intellectual Property Rights & Patents”

A one-day National Seminar on “Intellectual Property Rights & Patents” was conducted by Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Uttaranchal University, Dehradun, on 28th September, 2019. Dr. Manoj Kumar, Principal, NKBR College of Pharmacy and Ms. Mahamedha, Asst. Professor, DBIT, Dehradun, were the Guest Speaker. More than 190 students participated in the Seminar. Dr. Anuj Mittal, Director-UIPS, welcomed all dignitaries, guests & delegates.

Dr. Amit Semwal, Organizing Secretary of the Seminar and Head, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, welcomed all speakers, guests & students from various colleges. In his introductory speech he explained that this seminar would provide students the fundamental concepts of IPR and Patents. The session started with a Welcome Note delivered by Dr. Anuj Mittal and an introduction about Intellectual Property Rights and Indian Patent Office.

Ms. Mahamedha, in her session, briefed about Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) which is concerned with the protection of tangible and intangible property. She stated that IPR provides rewards and recognition to inventor/contributor for their research. Legal protection encourages innovation, economic growth, new jobs and industries, improves quality of life and provides an environment where creativity flourishes and everyone is benefited. IPR protection plays a key role in gaining modest advantage in terms of technological gains for achieving higher economic growth in a market driven economy. The speaker focused upon the key elements of intellectual property rights and the need to promote and protect IP, Patents, Trademarks, Industrial designs, Geographical indications and Copy rights.

The seminar received overwhelming response. 190 graduate students from various colleges like DBIT, GIS, SDBIT, SIP attended this Seminar.

Dr. Manoj Kumar, Principal, NKBR College of Pharmacy delivered his talk on “Current Issues in Intellectual Property Rights Laws in India”. He explained the disseminated knowledge on patents, patent regime in India and abroad and registration aspects through a very interesting presentation.

The Seminar was successfully organized with the co-ordination of Mr. Tarun Parashar and other Faculty Members, namely, Mrs. Soniya Rani and Ms. Pallavi Ghildiyal. Ms. Jyotsana Suyal hosted the program.

Program concluded with Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Amit Semwal.
