Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences organizes a National Seminar on ‘Emerging Trends of Clinical Research & Pharmacovigilance in India: A Career Choice for Pharma Graduates’

A National Seminar on ‘Emerging Trends of Clinical Research &Pharmacovigilance in India: A Career Choice for Pharma Graduates’ was organized by Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Uttaranchal University, on 20th April, 2019. Prof. (Dr.) Hem Chandra (Vice Chancellor, Doon Medical College), Dr.Mukesh Kumar (CEO and Founder RAHE Life Sciences), Dr.NikkuYadav (SRHU), Dr.Ankit Singh (SRHU) were the Guest Speakers of the Seminar. More than 400 students, invited guests, resource persons, faculty and staff of UIPS participated in the Seminar along with different colleges from Dehradun.

The event proceeded with the lighting of the auspicious lamp by Hon’ble Chancellor Shri. Jitender Joshi, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Joshi, Dr. Hem Chandra, Dr. Mukesh Kumar, Dr. Nikku Yadav and Dr. Ankit Singh. The Inaugural Ceremony initiated with the recital of the University Anthem followed by the felicitation of the dignitaries.

Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Joshi in his address welcomed all the dignitaries and participants and stated that the objective of the Seminar was to encourage research in varied fields. He further stated the scope of Clinical Trial and Pharmacovigilance. The pharma graduates are competent to help the society in respect of health issues and therefore must be aware about the recent innovations and technologies developing in the field of their concern and how these areas could be beneficial for their career. The main objective of this seminar was to impart basic level to expert knowledge of the pharmacy domain related to clinical research and pharmacovigilance. He also mentioned that Pharmacovigilance is a science related to detection, assessment, understanding and prevention of adverse effect or any other drug related problem.
Dr.Anuj Mittal (Director-UIPS) informed that more than 400 students participated in the Seminar and more than 30 Posters were selected for presentation. To foster the information related to career aspects of these fields the platform facilitated the amalgamation of domain experts from academics and industry.

The Chief Guest of the Seminar Prof. (Dr) Hem Chandra in his address stated that the objective of education should be to produce qualified personnel from all human endeavours thus contributing in national development. He added that Value Education enables us to understand ‘what is valuable’ for human happiness. Value Education is important to help everyone in improving the value system. Basic human values refer to those values which are at the core of being human. Our values inform our thoughts, words and actions. Our values are important because they help us to grow and develop. They help us to create the future we want to experience.

Dr. Nikku Yadav delivered a presentation on the establishment of a Clinical Research and Trials Testing Centre and leveraging the vast clinical and basic research expertise within the client population for the benefit of both human and animal health translational science and medicine.

Dr. Ankit Kumar told about the use of statistics in the field of Clinical Trial. Dr. Mukesh Kumar elaborated the market value of Pharmaceutical Industry.

Dr.Anuj Mittal stated that Clinical Trial is the study done in human subjects to investigate a potential new drug, device or biologic product. There are three primary groups involved in the conduct of clinical trials, namely, sponsors, clinical investigators and IRBs.

Co-Convenor Dr. Amit Semwal displayed the glimpses of the events conducted in the department and the selected posters. Poster presentation by different colleges was also a part of the Seminar wherein Ms. Ritu Negi from SRH University stood First, Mr.Surendra Bisht from DBIPR stood Second and Ms. Pooja Thakur from GRD stood Third.

The Seminar concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Mr.Tarun Parashar (Organizing Secretary). Dr.Arvind Negi, Ms.Pallavi Ghildiyal, Ms. Jyotsana and Ms. Soniya along with all the Faculty Members of UIPS were present in the Seminar.
