Uttaranchal Institute of Management organizes a ‘Hygiene Awareness Campaign’

The Globe Club (Global Learning and Observation to Benefit the Environment Club) of Uttaranchal Institute Of Management, under the aegis of Uttaranchal University, organized a ‘Hygiene Awareness Campaign’ and conducted a Visit to a Slum Area near Nanda ki Chowki, Premnagar, Dehradun on 13th September, 2018 under the strong leadership of Prof. Dr. Pardeep Suri (Director-UIM).

Dr. Mohd. Tariq Intezar (Head-Research & Studies) and Heads of all the Departments graced the occasion by their benign presence. The activity was supervised by Dr. Mamta Bansal (Head – Globe Club), along with the members of Globe Club, namely, Dr. Swati Anand ,Ms. Pooja Gupta ,Ms. Kanika Singhal, Ms. Prabhjot Kaur and Mr.Rohit Dhiman.

The objective of the event was to join hands with the poor and create awareness about health and hygeine as well as communicable and non-communicable diseases. As we are all very much aware of the fact that the future of the country’s society depends considerably on the health of its children and the parents and teachers are the greatest influencers, therefore, this campaign was organised to educate the parents and children on personal hygiene. They were told about the importance of maintaining hygiene which helps in prevention of diseases.

Dr. Mamta Bansal conducted this campaign through the trained students of various courses of UIM. They talked about hygiene, its importance in human life and enlisted simple routine steps to ensure cleanliness.

The event started off with an informative and interactive session on hygiene along with a small role play and a street play. The awareness material for Hygiene Awareness Campaign in the form of pamphlets along with paper soaps, hand sanitizers and bottles of dettol were also distributed among the women and the youngsters residing in the slums. Students used placards, slogans & banners to make them realize that “Health is Wealth”.

In the Question & Answer and Quiz Round many queries of the slum dwellers were handled diligently by the students under the guidance of the members of Globe Club. The people and specially the kids were really happy and excited by the visit of our Globe Club.

It was found that the children of the slum went to a nearby school. They could read and write and a few answered the questions in English. Therefore we concluded that these children would become further source of spreading hygiene awareness amongst the other people of this slum.

Frequent visits to such places would make our students contribute towards hygiene awareness creation and the slum dwellers would add hygiene as an active and important part of their daily routine. Thus it would be a contribution towards our government’s endeavor to attain the objectives of ‘Swatch Bharat Abhiyaan’.

Such activities strengthen the emotional health of the students and ignite the feelings of compassion towards the poorer sections of the society.
