Uttaranchal Institute of Management organizes a Guest Lecture on “Role of Soft Skills for Employability – Campus to Corporate”

A Guest Lecture on “Role of Soft Skills for Employability – Campus to Corporate” was organized and conducted by Uttaranchal Institute of Management, Uttaranchal University on Friday, 24th August, 2018. The attendees of the Lecture were the Final Year students of Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses.

The Master of Ceremony, Mr. Shivendra Chaudhary, welcomed the Guest Speaker Prof. Jean Saldanha, an eminent personality with a vast experience. The MoC then welcomed the other dignitaries, Branch Manager-IBS Mr. Digvijay Singh, Director-UIM Prof.(Dr.) Pradeep Suri and HOD-IT Dr. Sonal Sharma.

The programme commenced with the felicitation of the Guest Speaker, Prof. Jean Saldanah with a bouquet of flowers. Director-UIM, Prof.(Dr.) Pradeep Suri, welcomed the speaker and apprised the students about the exceptional experience of Prof. Jean Saldanah from IBS, Gurgaon. Prof. J. Saldanah has worked with various esteemed organisations like Britannia Industries, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, HCL Technologies and American Express, to name a few. In February 2016, she was awarded the First Prize at the national level HR Case Writing Competition conducted by CII. She is a certified ATD Master Trainer from Dallas, USA. She had also headed the HCL Women’s Council, Gurgaon. She contributes to waste management initiatives as a part of her passion to keep our planet safe.

Prof. Jean Saldanah started her session by putting forth a question to the students – ‘Do you want a successful career?’ to which all the students replied affirmatively. She touched upon the differentiating factor between Job and Career, followed by insights on various Soft Skills required for leading a successful career. She also focussed on the three aspects of Employability – Ability Fit, Personality Fit and Culture Fit. She dealt with various aspects of personality, how to handle Group Discussions and Interviews. She also emphasized the importance of Digital Etiquette in Workplace, a new arena of Etiquette. The session was highly interactive with various activities being conducted that aptly demonstrated the significance of the various soft skills. The Speaker enthralled the huge student audience with her exceptional presentation skills while dealing with an immensely wide array of soft skill related aspects.

The session culminated with the MoC inviting HOD-IT Dr. Sonal Sharma to propose a Vote of Thanks. Dr. Sonal Sharma thanked the speaker for a highly thought-provoking session on Soft Skills and further stressed on the absolute importance of soft skills for the students to be successfully placed.
