School of Agriculture organizes Orientation Program – 2018

School of Agriculture (SOA) organized “Student Orientation Program” for the new students of B.Sc. Agriculture, Semester-I and M.Sc. Agriculture (Plant Pathology), Semester-I in the Seminar Hall of Uttaranchal University on 20th August, 2018. The objective of the program was to introduce the students to college services and familiarize them with campus environment so that a positive attitude can be built that supports their educational and personal goals.

The program was graced by the presence of Shri Jitender Joshi, Hon’ble Chancellor of the Uttaranchal University, Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Joshi, Vice-Chancellor and Prof. (Dr.) J.P. Mishra, Principal – SOA. The program commenced with Lamp Lightening followed by the recital of the University Anthem.

In his Welcome Address Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor elaborated the various opportunities after successful completion of UG and PG Course of Agriculture in government and non government sectors. He said that Agriculture is the oldest science developed by human civilization and is the most emerging branch of education that fulfils the basic demands of humankind and thus has limitless scopes. He further elucidated that the University is facilitating world-class, state-of-art & well equipped laboratories, classrooms and practical/experimental fields. He motivated all the students of Agriculture to develop honesty in study, practice hard work and utilize their valuable time properly. He informed that the University is not only focussed on placement of students but also provides suitable environment for student’s start-up/entrepreneurship. He briefed about course outline, marking scheme, CBCS Grading System, Rules & Regulations and achievements of Uttaranchal University.

Prof. (Dr.) J.P. Mishra, Principal – SOA addressed the students and congratulated them for their selection of the most important course having tremendous job opportunities. He informed that SOA is offering the latest course curriculum as suggested by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in its UG and PG programme and serving best education since the past five years. He enlightened the students regarding learning methodology, time management and positive attitude specifically for study and for the society in general. He also introduced students to the well qualified and experienced Faculty Members, Coordinators & Mentors, Heads of various committees and Offices of SOA & Administrative Building.

Honourable Chancellor of the University, Shri Jitender Joshi blessed all the students and welcomed them in Uttaranchal University. He informed that the University is ragging-free and has zero tolerance for drug addiction and anti-social activities. The campus is declared as Green Campus and has developed an excellent environment that not only minimizes anxiety but promotes positive attitude and stimulates an excitement for learning. He assured that the University will always support student’s effort for their educational and personal goals. He motivated all the students to make proper plans and set long term and short term objectives for study. He suggested that all students should remain in touch with farmers during and after the course so that both can be benefited. They may help during selection of best quality and variety of seed, proper doses of pesticides, fungicides, crop enhancers, organic practice agriculture, etc. and other use of technologies in the crop fields. He emphasized on honesty, social behaviour, safety measures in working area or outside the campus and affirmation of faith among each other.

Prof. (Dr.) J.P. Mishra invited suggestions from students and thanked all the dignitaries for sparing their valuable time & motivating the newly admitted students. The programme concluded with the recital of the National Anthem.
