Department of Mathematics, Uttaranchal College of Applied and Life Sciences, organized a one-day Seminar on “Career Paths in Mathematical Sciences” on 26th April 2019. The seminar specifically focused on Mathematical careers outside academia that rarely carries a simple title of mathematician. The very idea of a career in mathematics has evolved and diversified and is often coupled with a specialty or area of research interest.
The event proceeded with the lighting of the auspicious lamp by Hon’ble Chancellor Shri Jitender Joshi, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Joshi, Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh (Principal, UCALS), Dr. V.K. Srivastava, Dr. U.S. Rana and Dr. Jai Pal Singh.
Dr. V.K. Srivastava (Head, Department of Mathematics) welcomed the dignitaries including Dr. Jai Pal Singh (Associate Professor, DBS PG College, Dehradun) and introduced the guests to the students. Dr. Mohit Kumar (Seminar Organizing Secretary) emphasized upon the importance of conducting such events for the students. He explained that the purpose of the event was to provide the knowledge about the careers in mathematical field to the students.
Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh (Principal, UCALS) motivated the students and advised them to explore the different field of mathematics and also encouraged the students to participate actively in such activities. About 105 students of B.Sc. (Hons) Mathematics participated in this seminar.
Experts initiated presentations with the career paths in mathematical sciences. They imparted the working knowledge to do a good mathematics as a professional level. He also elaborated on the different career fields for mathematics student. Career opportunities in the mathematical sciences fall into two broad categories, educators and practitioners.
They explained the qualifications and the working process required to achieve above professions and careers.
The seminar turned out to be a huge success with active support of Dr. M.K. Sharma, Dr. Ajay Kumar, Dr. Shalu Chaudhary, Mr. Atma Nand and Ms. Dipika Saxena.
