School of Liberal Arts, Uttaranchal University launches Reading Club in association with English Language Teachers’ Association of India (ELTAI)

“There are many little ways to enlarge a child’s world. Love of books is the best of all.” – Jacqueline Kennedy

These words reflect the very thought process that inspired the inauguration of a reading club in the Uttaranchal University in association with English language Teacher’s association of India, ELTAI.  Prof (Dr) Shravan Kumar, who believes that readers are leaders, with a vision to create lifelong learners became the driving force behind the initiation of this reading movement at the University. 

The ELTAI-UU Reading Club inauguration was hosted by Ms Bharti Rana, Assistant Professor, School of Liberal Arts, who extended a warm welcome and delightful wishes to all the attendees. Giving an introduction to the framework of ELTAI and its foundation, it was elaborated upon how ELTAI is the largest Network of Teachers of English in India (An Associate of IATEFL, UK and affiliate to TESOL, USA).

Continuing with the proceedings of this occasion, Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna, the Pro Vice Chancellor of Uttaranchal University was invited to address the worthy attendees with a welcome note. He extended his greetings to all the dignified guests who graced the occasion, and his words marked a diligent initiation of the event. Furthermore, as the proceedings of the inauguration continued, Prof (Dr) Sanjay Arora, the National President, ELTAI was requested to elaborate upon the concept of Reading Club. He discussed the significance of reading habits, the need to motivate upcoming generations, and how the pandemic situation has made an impact on the young budding readers. He also talked of the need for more innovative ideas. Carrying on with the event, Prof (Dr) Dharam Buddhi, the Vice-Chancellor of Uttaranchal University inspired everyone with his intellectual, and encouraging remarks. He advised and motivated everyone to be a part of the scholarly club and thanked ELTAI for the prestigious coordination. He enthusiastically looked forward to various activities of ELTAI.

Prof (Dr) S Mohanraj from ELTAI, shared his thoughts with the dignitaries. He talked of the Covid-19 situation leading to the inclusion of technology and the significance of new developments in terms of reading. In addition to this, to elucidate upon the aspects of the Roles of Mentors of Reading Club, Prof (Dr) K Elango, National Secretary also discussed a plethora of ideas for executing the activities in the club. In his humble address, he thanked everyone for being a part of the club and motivated everyone with his proficient words.

The session carried on, when, with the benign presence of Shri Jitender Joshi, Hon’ble Chancellor Uttaranchal University, the Virtual Inauguration of ELTAI-UU Reading Club took place.

For the Signing of MoU, Dr K Elango, the National Secretary of ELTAI and Dr S C Sharma, the Registrar of Uttaranchal University carried on with the official proceedings. The event finally reached a successful conclusion. Henceforth, in order to propose a Vote of thanks to all the coordinators and the entire fraternity of Uttaranchal University who made this event a grand success, Mr Ankur Sharma, Assistant Professor, SLA, Uttaranchal University extended gratitude with warm wishes.
