School of Liberal Arts Celebrates International Women’s Day

Many women can resonate with the idea of William Golding that has given a new dimension in society that is dominated by men. He wanted to convey and try to disseminate the abilities of women and make them realize their latent and enormous capabilities to do wonders in life. On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the School of Liberal Arts celebrated women for their efforts, capabilities, abilities, courage, and hard work. The School of Liberal Arts, Uttaranchal University celebrated the day on 7th March 2022 in the Communication Lab at 2:30 pm. The event was graced by Dean, SLA Prof (Dr) Shravan Kumar and he motivated the students to keep organising these kinds of events.

The event consisted of two competitions, Poetry Recitation and Poster Making wherein the students from various colleges of the university participated with zeal and enthusiasm.

The program started with the speech followed by a parody presented by students of BA(H)English,4th Semester namely, Ritesh Negi, Arman Joshi, Prerna Singh, Reetika, Surbhi Negi, Akshita, and Bhumika. The presentation was much liked by one and all. After the presentation, Priya Juyal of first-year BA(H) Psychology presented a heart-touching speech on Gender Equality. The stage was compered done by Ms Devanshi, BA(H)English. The newly appointed student volunteers Reetika and Prerna Singh put in great efforts to make the event a success.

The Beautiful, as well as meaningful posters, were presented by students from all over the university. Prof (Dr) Shravan Kumar, Dean SLA observed each and every poster and had a word with the participants. In the Poetry competition, all the poems were students’ own compositions. If one student talked about Women’s Empowerment, the other talked about equality. Some presented poems on the sufferings and some sang the glories of the 21st century women. The results were declared at the end of the program by Dr Reeta Rautela and Dr Santosh Singh.

Winners of poetry competition were: Rahul, BA-First, Pawan Singh Rawat, BA -Second and Third position was bagged by Tanika, BA(H)English and Tuba Khan, SALS jointly and winners of poster competition were: Ishika, B. Com-First Position, Arun, BA(H)English-Second and Aarti Jangra, UIM-Third position. Whereas Vasu Kalra from B. Com received a consolation prize. The program came to a close with the vote of thanks proposed by Jagriti of BA(H) English. The program was flawlessly coordinated by Dr Pinki Chugh, Member Secretary, Women Cell.
