School of Applied and Life Sciences conducts an Awareness Programme on Cancer

On the occasion of ‘World Cancer Day’ on 4th February, 2020 ‘Biogenerika’, the Biotechnology Students’ Club of Department of Biotechnology, organized an Awareness Programme on Cancer in association with DNA Labs (Dehradun). The programme was conducted under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh (Principal-SALS) and was executed by Dr. Indra Rautela, Dr. Rakesh Matura and Dr. Vivekanand Bahuguna.

The Awareness Programme was conducted in two segments. The first segment comprised of an off-campus drive in which students visited DNA Labs where a Technical Session on ‘Causes, Prevention and Diagnosis of Different Types of Cancer’ was held. Students also participated in Poster Presentation held at DNA Lab (Dehradun). Ayushi and Jyoti of M.Sc. Biotechnology (SALS – Uttaranchal University) were awarded Second Prize in Poster Presentation Category. The second segment comprised of an on-campus Presentation Session. The second segment commenced with an address delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh. In his address he emphasized on the significance of such awareness programmes in context of increasing cancer causes owing to modern life style and polluted environment. Participants, through their Poster and Oral Presentations, provided valuable knowledge & information regarding various aspects of varied types of cancer. The program proved to be extremely beneficial for the participants as it provided relevant and necessary information on physiological genetic and environmental causes of cancer.
