School of Agriculture (SOA) visited Abhinav Dairy farm, Sahaspur, Dehradun

On 22nd November 2021 Students of School of Agriculture (SOA) visited Abhinav Dairy farm, Sahaspur, Dehradun. The objectives of the educational tour/visit are to identify the different species and breeds of livestock and to develop skills of handling and care management of livestock. Dr B K Chaudhary, founder of Organic Farm of Abhinav Dairy explained to the students about the important role of animal husbandry in the Integrated Farming System for the sustainable agriculture that also contributes to the farmers income and to the national economy. He explained the methods and modern technologies used in management of the breeding of the dairy cattle and dairy farm. He further explained about the common diseases of cattle and their management.

Dr B K Chaudhary also showed the organic farm to the students and explained the identification features of dairy cattle breeds like Zebu cattle, Sahiwal, and Holestein (Exotic breed), etc. He explained the gestation period of the cow, the management of the pregnant cow and calving of the cow. He also told the feeding management of the cattle, culling, diseases of the cattle and the vaccination. He told the milk yield of the sahiwal and holestein breed. After that we visited the goat house poultry and identified the goat breeds. The Students got the knowledge about different goat breeds and their management.

Students also visited the automatic milking house of Abhinav Dairy. Here students saw the machine milking method and learn the operating procedure. Students became very happy and enjoyed this educational tour and developed their knowledge on daily routine farm operations and identification of different livestock animals.
