On 7th September 2019 Media Club of Department of Communication, SLA organized ‘Debate Competition 2019’ on the topic “Feminism as a Weapon”. The event was headed by Mr. Avi Naman, Head – Media Club under the guidance of Ms. Smriti Uniyal, Coordinator – DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATION, SLA. The Chief Guest of this event was Prof (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna, In-Charge Director – DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATION, SLA.
The event was exclusively for the students of Mass Communication of Uttaranchal University. Mr. Avi Naman, and Ms. AnoushkaTyagi, Sub-Head of Media Club hosted the event. The event initiated with the welcome of the Chief Guest followed by the lighting of the auspicious lamp. Prof (Dr) Bahuguna addressed the participants by telling the importance of debates and discussions. He addressed the students on behalf of DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATION, SLA to tell about the upcoming projects.
The moderator for this event was Mr. Avi Naman and the jury included Ms. Smriti Uniyal, Mr.Ved Prakash and Mr. Pawan Dabral.
The First Session was divided into 2 parts. In the first part all the participants were supposed to give their opening statements regarding their thoughts about feminism and in the next part they had their open debate. In the Second Session, 3 speakers were selected from each side and they were given a topic of ‘Was #MeToo a feminist or a women empowerment movement”. The Second Session was the deciding session in which the ‘Best Speaker’ and ‘2nd Best Speaker’ were adjudged.
The Speakers were judged on the basis of content, body language, command on language and pronunciation. This debate was bilingual. Students of DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATION, SLA delivered their best. Mr. Akshat Maletha of BAJMC 3rd Semester and Mr. Chirag Garg of BAJMC 3rd Semester were adjudged ‘Best Debater’ and ‘High Commendation’ respectively.
