Law College Dehradun organizes a Workshop on “Environment, Society and Governance”

Law College Dehradun, faculty of Uttaranchal University organized a workshop on, “Environment, Social and (corporate) Governance ” as the 3rd edition of ‘Career Awareness in Legal Globe’, under the aegis of Youth Parliament Society on 8 April 2022. The keynote speaker of the event was Mr Sonal Verma, Partner, Dhir & Dhir Associates. The event commenced with the lighting of lamp followed by the inaugural address by Pro Vice-Chancellor & Dean Law College, Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna and he welcomed the Keynote speaker and the guests of the occasion. Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna stated that in the current scenario, companies and institutions of any country are evaluated on the basis of parameters of Environmental, Social and Governance. “In future, companies adhering to E.S.G standards alone would be in a position to attract investments and would have a bright future”, he further maintained.

Hon’ble Chancellor of the university, Shri Jintender Joshi observed that making students adept in the principles of E.S.G. and ensuring observance in letter and spirit is an avowed commitment of the university. “Uttaranchal University has been evaluated as A+ on the parameters of E.S.G. which is a matter of great satisfaction to us”, he further stated.

The technical session by Mr Sonal Verma along with his associate Mr Saurabh Sharma included rare insights into the corporate firms, and was of great significance for aspiring corporate lawyers. The workshop provided deep acumen on the corporate culture and that the investors now are not only looking for investments in the company but are realizing the importance of ESG and the company’s links to sustainability and a healthy work environment. Further 17 SDGs and the importance of people and preservation of the planet were well explained. The workshop elaborated on the importance of the lawyer fraternity in leading change and how they will prove an asset when it comes to introducing ESG into the corporates.

This was followed by the Query session and finally the participants took a pledge on protecting the planet earth. The event ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr Sachin Bharadwaj, Chairperson of Youth Parliament Society followed by the national anthem. The workshop was well coordinated by Sonali Jangra and Muskan Jha, executive members of YPS. Those present on the occasion were Dr Poonam Rawat, Iqbal Singh Sahwney, Saurabh Sharma, Sachin Bhardwaj, Dr Shikha Gairola, Dr Vaibhav Uniyal, Dr Vibha and hundreds of Students and faculty members.
