Law College Dehradun, under the aegis of Legal Aid Centre, organized its official visit to District Jail, Dehradun, as per the requirement of Field Project, on 6th October, 2018. The visit to Jail proved to be a great experience as it not only changed the perspective of an actual jail but also enlightened the students about the daily routine of the prisoners living there. The prisoners were trained on varied skilled works such as welding, painting & tailoring and were paid for their labor. Basic amenities for the convicts like proper care of hygiene, good food, and health checkups were ensured on a regular basis.
The students also had an opportunity to interact with the Jail Superintendent Mr. M.S. Gawai, who, despite his busy schedule spared his time for the students. He informed them regarding the necessity & objective of jail and highlighted the importance of jails in the society. The Dehradun Jail Visit was held under the guidance of our eminent faculty Mr. Shashank Tyagi who accompanied the students to the jail and explained that custody, care and treatment are the integral functions of a jail.
