Law College Dehradun organized a talk on “Importance of Mental Health for College Going Students”

Law College Dehradun, Faculty of Uttaranchal University organised a talk on “The importance of Mental Health for College Going Students”, under the aegis of Law College Dehradun Student Counseling Cell (LCDSCC) on 20th November 2021. Ms Shyamolima Dutta, a renowned psychologist, currently working with Tata Consultancy was the chief guest. Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro VC Uttaranchal University & Dean Law College Dehradun felicitated the chief guest and followed by lighting of the lamp and the University Kulgeet.

Ms Shyamolima Dutta had a very interactive talk with the students of Law College and discussed the symptoms of psychological issues. Extreme emotional high and low, sleep issues, body dysphoria, hormonal problems, hopelessness and helplessness, depression, anxiety disorder, OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) were among significant problems which were discussed in detail. She explained the sources of stress among the College students like financial issues, upgraded lifestyle, examinations, assignments, romantic and toxic relationships. As a solution, she discussed with the students how to make meaningful connections, create short-term goals, engage in self-compassion, challenge negative self-talk, improvement in management skills and if the problem persists, talk to a mental health professional.

The event ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Member Secretary, Dr Shikha Uniyal Gairola followed by the National Anthem.
