Law College Dehradun inducts its students for the Academic Session 2018-19

Law College Dehradun welcomed its new students for the under-graduate and post-graduate courses with a week-long Induction Program organized from 16th – 28th August, 2018.

The prime objective of an Induction Program is to help the students to transit from school to college life. It also targets to acquaint the freshers the academic culture and ethics being followed across the university. This prepares them for their new role and makes them familiar with the new environment including their rights, duties, privileges and responsibilities. This program helps the students to appreciate the importance of professionalism and values and at the same time assists them in establishing a healthy bonding within the student community.

16th August 2018 – Registration
The seven-day event kick started with the registration of students on 16th of August wherein the students of various courses enrolled themselves after the verification of their documents by their mentors. The enrollment of the students saw substantial increase when compared with the previous years. The aim of the day was to ensure that every student feels welcomed, engaged and excited to begin this new important stage in their education.

18th August 2018 – Orientation
Law College Dehradun organized its Orientation Program on 18th August 2018 wherein the new students were welcomed by the Management of the University and Faculty Members of Law College Dehradun as a mark of new beginning for all the Freshers. Before the commencement of the classes, the students were given an overview of the complete realm of university life including academic, social and various in-house activities through the Induction Program. The Chief Guest of the occasion was Hon’ble Chancellor Shri Jitender Joshi and Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Joshi & Dr. Abhishek Joshi, Director, Student Affairs and IT Services were present as the Guest of Honour. The event began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and Saraswati Vandana.

Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna, Principal and Dean of Law College Dehradun delivered his first official address. He in his address to the Freshers extended his cordial welcome to the historical hall of the University. It was a proud moment that amidst the students, 45% of them were female students showing the aspiration and competence of feminine gender. Out of these, 100 students were selected on the basis of their CLAT score and the others on the basis of merit system. The new entrants comprised of students from more than 22 states and neighboring countries of the nation. The Principal then proudly introduced the pillars of the college, none other than the Faculty Members, who work tirelessly for the betterment of the students. Dr. Rajesh Bahuguna delivered a 90 minutes inspirational speech in continuance covering various aspects which primarily aimed at introducing the students to college life, assimilating students to their new surroundings and building up a positive attitude amidst the student community. He also mentioned that students should channelize their energy in a productive way by participating in various societies like Debating Society, Legal Aid Centre, Moot Court Society, Youth Parliament Society, Cultural society and Sports Society that are functioning efficiently in the college. His Guru Mantra for the students was ‘BHOG’ where B- stands for be honest to yourself, parents, teachers and profession, H- stands for have faith in the system in which you are involved, O-be organized in every aspect, G- for give your 100 % in whatever you do.

Prof.(Dr.) N.K.Joshi in his address motivated the students to be updated with the technologies and frame a short term and long term goal. He motivated the students to develop the skill of socializing and selling their talents which is very vital for a budding lawyer. The Curriculum of the University (i.e.) Choice Based Credit System was explained and he insisted the students to go through the University Website and Facebook to keep abreast of the events going on in the institution.

Hon’ble Chancellor in his inspiring speech appreciated the chronological development of the college which has produced a series of Gold Medalists and 22 Judges. He welcomed the students through his pearls of wisdom and urged them to inculcate professionalism and values and make the utmost of the golden opportunity availed to them.

Present on the occasion were all the Faculty Members and students of Law College Dehradun. Dr. Prabha Lama brilliantly anchored the entire event and the occasion culminated with the National Anthem.

20th & 21st August 2018 – Ice-breaking Sessions
Ice-breaking is a fun activity where new students of the college get acquainted with one another as well as their seniors. This is usually conducted within the first week of commencement of classes and gives an opportunity to everyone to familiarize with each other and make some new friends. This activity was conducted in two sessions for the students of B.A.LL.B., BBA. LL.B. and L.L.B. students respectively. Here the new comers where asked to introduce themselves in the presence of the senior students. This sets the tone of junior – senior relationship for the entire course. As first impressions are very important the new entries made a conscious effort to make it a favorable one.

23rd August 2018 – Orientation Program of AArambh – The Debating Society & Moot Court Society

Aarambh – The Debating Society of Law College Dehradun, which is one of the oldest society of the university, organized its Orientation Program for Freshers Batch 2018-2019. The session started with an introduction of the society by Ms. V. Bhuvaneswari, the Chairperson of the Society where she explained the importance of debating skills and its role in the making of an articulate lawyer and motivated the students to be a part of the society. This was followed by a presentation delivered by Ms. Sheva Khan, the President, on the types of debates through mock demonstrations. She also enunciated on the various successful events organized by the society since its inception in the year 2004. Principal & Dean, Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna, in his address, stated that the society is a forum for discussion of current events and offers valuable insight into the contemporary political climate of the times. The applause from the freshers that moved the Seminar Hall narrated the success of the Orientation Program. ‘Aarambh’ welcomed all the Freshers to the college and wished them good luck for their induction process that was soon to follow. The event concluded successfully with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms. Chanchal Sharma, the Vice President of the Society.

Moot Court Society of Law College Dehradun conducted its Orientation Program for the first year students. The program commenced with the Dean’s address, where he inspired the students with his captivating words of wisdom. Mr. Sagar Negi the Vice President of the Society apprised the audience with a presentation on the intricacies of mooting, functions of the society and its achievements. This was followed by a speech delivered by Mr. Rajat Gaur and Ms. Swati Thapa wherein they shared their experience in the society and left the audience awestruck. Later Ms. Vaishnavi Mehta and Ms. Isha, shared their memorable journey in the society. The program ended with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms. Somya Gaur, the President of the Society.

 

24th August 2018 – Orientation Program of Youth Parliament Society (YPS) & Legal Aid Centre (LAC)

The Youth Parliament Society (YPS) of Law College Dehradun, organized its Orientation Program for 1st Year Students on 24th August 2018 in Seminar Hall.
The Orientation Program started with an address delivered by Hon’ble Dean and Principal of Law College Dehradun, Prof.(Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna where he stated that though the society was established formally in 2017  the seeds of this society were sowed long back as Law College Dehradun holds a rich history of organizing Parliaments in its premises. He said that the main object of this Society is to teach students good politics. The Chairperson of Youth Parliament Society Mr. Razit Sharma addressed the gathering and welcomed all the students of 1st Year in the College. He appealed to the students to join the Youth Parliament Society and also emphasized that the society would make individuals think out-of-the-box and become the change makers.

After the speech of the dignitaries, the President of Youth Parliament Society, Mr. Lakshya Agarwal, proceeded further with the Orientation wherein he briefed the students about Model United Nations and Youth Parliament and also told about the working of Youth Parliament Society. In the end the glimpses of Previous Competitions were shown to the students to make them familiar with the Society. The Program ended with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Mr. Akshay Chawla, the Vice-President of the Society.

The Legal Aid Centre’s (LAC) Orientation Program was organized on 24th August, 2018. The program was organized so that the newly admitted students in the college could get familiar with the functioning of the society and initiate them towards self-perception.

The program was divided into two sessions which was initiated by the Vice-President, Ms. Shuchita Srivastav and Secretary Ms. Pramila Bhatt followed by a speech by the Dean Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna who is also the Director of the Society. Mr.Vaibhav Uniyal, the faculty In-charge of the Society presented an overwhelming speech depicting how the society conducted different events and what the society seeks from the members.

A speech on the history as well the aims and objectives of the society was given by
Mr. Abhishek Sahu followed by a PPT Presentation prepared by Mr. Arpit Singhal and Mr. Shashank Pant. It illustrated the various major events that the society had successfully conducted in the last 14 years since its establishment in 2004.

Mr. Surnayak Shukla and Mr. Kumar Ayush Garg narrated beautiful poems in remembrance of the Former Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee who demised recently. A brief speech was delivered by Ms. Anshika Singh on the achievements and workshops conducted by the Society in recent years. The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by the Vice-President, Mr. Ashutosh Singh and President Ms. Mitali.

28th August 2018- Motivational session by ‘Ayudh’

“Unleash your hidden potential”

Law College Dehradun in collaboration with ‘AYUDH’ organized a Motivational Lecture on 28th August, 2018. The session aimed at youth empowerment with special focus on inculcating ethical values, patriotism and Indian culture in today’s youth. Dr. Abhishek Joshi, Director, Student Affairs and IT Services was the Chief Guest of the occasion and the event began with lighting of the ceremonial lamp and a Welcome Note delivered by Principal & Dean Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna wherein he greeted the professional team from AYUDH, an international youth empowerment platform spread across six continents.

The Motivational Session began with a prayer recital by Mr. Amit, a member of Ayudh Team, in which he sensitized the young students about their role towards the nation creating awareness, conviction & commitment towards one’s society and endeavored to improve ethical values among the youngsters. The need for ethical value was driven hard into the minds of the students through a Role Play and he motivated the youth to channelize their valuable energy for a good cause which would ultimately benefit the society. This was followed by an Inspirational Talk by Mr. Vivek, who discussed about the role of youth in creating environmental awareness and the need to improve sustainable development goals. His speech also focused on the awareness of the fatal effects of the usage of drugs among the youth and the need to bring an end to the open defecation system which is an age old unhygienic practice followed in the country. This eventually inspired the students to protect nature and water bodies of the country. Ms. Bharthi and Mr. Sumit also gave inspiring talks and live examples on how to stay motivated in life by exploring and developing one’s inherent potential. They also invited the students to be a part of ‘AYUDH’ which has a holistic approach including fun, work and learning and to participate in AYUDH Leaders Training Summit which is to be held in December 2018.

Prof. Bahuguna, in his address, stated that education should imbibe social consciousness and one should willingly use knowledge and skills to solve societal issues. Dr. Abhiskek Joshi, in his speech encouraged the youngsters to create a positive impact in the society by taking a leap of faith and follow their dreams and visions. The session was attended by the Faculty Members and students of Law College Dehradun.

This comprehensive Induction Program turned out to be an adhesive force between the Freshers and the Institution making it one entity, creating a robust & trustworthy relationship between them.
