The School of Liberal Arts organised its third international lecture on 28 March which was an ‘Research trends in Conversation Analysis, Teaching Turn-talking’. The speaker for this session was Prof. Jonathon Ryan, Principal Academic Staff, Waikato, New Zealand. The main aim and purpose of the School of Liberal Arts, Uttaranchal University, is to encourage research and foster universal skills and also to liberate and produce a person who is virtuous, ethical, and knowledgeable in many fields, and highly articulate. School of Liberal Arts provides exhilarating and creative learning experiences for students who are interested in sorting and implementing new ways to learn, grow and achieve their potential on the ethos of excellence in research and innovation to create positive social impact.
And to follow our customs of excellence in research and innovation, we have started an international lecture series wherein we collaborate with various academic institutions across the globe to get in-depth knowledge of various relevant concepts. In this lecture series, we had our first session by Dr Anna Fakrtovich from the USA on the topic ‘Re-Attribution of the British Renaissance’. The session was a grand success. The second session organised was by Emeritus professor William Dutton, University of Southern California, UK who spoke on ‘The Fifth Estate: The power shift of digital age’.
This third session was dealt by Professor Jonathan Ryan, Principal Academic, Staff Member of Research Office, Waikato Institute of Technology, Wintech, New Zealand, who spoke on the trends in conversation analysis and threw light upon the sociological foundations of conversational analysis which go back to Ervin Goffman. The speaker’s talk was followed by a question-and-answer session in which the speaker interacted with the participants from across the country, students of Uttaranchal University and other universities, along with faculty members on the aspects of theory and practical questions related to conversation analysis. The third lecture session was a successful event by the collective efforts of all from the School of Liberal Arts, Uttaranchal University. Harshita Pant, a first-year English (H) student compered the event and introduced the Dean SLA, Prof (Dr) Shravan Kumar who gave a warm welcome to the Speaker and the participants. Ms Shilpi Prakash, Assistant Professor, Psychology, SLA, energetically moderated the session and helped in taking forward the questions from the audience. The event was coordinated and coordinated by Ms Paridhi Joshi, Assistant Professor, Sociology, SLA. This International Lecture Series is being organised with the support of ELTAI, NCR-Greater Noida Chapter.
