Imparting awareness on climate change and identifying priority areas for adaption in Uttarakhand

Uttaranchal University organized a workshop on “Imparting awareness on climate change and identifying priority areas for adaption in Uttarakhand” on 3rd June 2022. The workshop was conducted on the campus of HESCO, Dehradun in the presence of Padma Bhushan, Dr Anil Joshi. He focused on economy and ecology for sustainable development goals. He also emphasized unemployment and the industrial revolution with sustainability and asked Uttaranchal University to develop sustainability skills among youth.

Chancellor, Uttaranchal University Shri Jitender Joshi congratulated the team for organizing a workshop on a topic having international importance. Vice-Chancellor, Prof (Dr) Dharam Buddhi shared his views on sustainable ecosystems and the intervention of technology for healing nature. He announced new courses on energy and sustainability at Uttaranchal University.  Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna discussed the requirement of policies for climate change.

Experts in the field shared their views on the very crucial topic of climate change. Dr D S Rawat, Deputy Director, watershed management directorate, Dehradun discussed the impact of climate change on livestock and farmers. Dr Rajesh Sharma from the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology shared his views on the impact on society due to climate change. Dr V P Uniyal from the Wildlife Institute of India shared his research in the field of bioindicators for eco-health. Dr N K Meena from Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, Dehradun discussed the importance of diatom records for accessing climate change and shared the possible reasons of the Kedarnath disaster in 2013. The event concluded with a panel discussion and Prof Rajesh Singh concluded that development is part of the human race and we should use technology to monitor and collect real-time data from remote locations and implementation of smart devices at identified locations is important. Our future generation is required to take part not only in technology development but also to use it effectively and efficiently.

A vote of thanks was proposed by Prof Anita Gehlot and the event was hosted by Dr Sanjeev Kimothi and Dr Kiran Negi. Students from different institutes also participated.
