Use of Information and Communication Technology significantly expands the horizon. To keep the spirits high, in spite of the existing period of noxious pandemic across the nation, the HR Club of Uttaranchal Institute of Management, under the aegis of Uttaranchal University, organized a Webinar entitled ‘Emerging Challenges in Talent Acquisition’ on 2nd May, 2020 at 3:00 pm for the students pursuing MBA and BBA programmes. The webinar had a count of 100 participants in all.

Ms. Richi Singh, Talent Acquisition Lead – MobileIron Pvt. Ltd. (Bengaluru), was the Resource Person for the webinar.

The event was hosted by Dr. Deepti Sharma (Associate Professor& Head of the HR Club) with the objective of enhancing the students’ knowledge in the practical domain of Human Capital Management. Human Capital Management has become a big-time challenge for managers in today’s era of immense competition for survival and growth of multi-national corporations. Talent Acquisition is the managerial process of acquiring qualified specialists who are well-trained in their respective functional domains.

Ms. Richi Singh highlighted various facets of talent acquisition and threw light on the contemporary issues that are being faced by Human Capital Specialists. These issues certainly become a challenge when thought of with a proactive mind-set. Employees, considered to be stalwarts in their domains do pose a tormenting threat to the organization’s attrition rate due to their uncanny behaviour which leads to unstable environment. Ms. Singh reiterated on the precarious situation that is prevalent due to the outbreak of lethal COVID-19 and has impacted the policies of many organizations, compelling them to downsize or pink slip the vestigial members of its workforce. Accuracy in terms of identification of performance-driven individuals and retaining them in spite of circumstantially-induced unfavourable policies like pay-reduction that cannot be compromised with, is undoubtedly, a formidable task.

Ms. Singh further contributed through her quintessence, her opinions and her experientially driven suggestions on how these issues or challenges can be faced and thwarted in the long-run to preserve the most valuable asset of any organization, i.e., its pool of talented professionals. After her informative address, Ms. Singh answered the queries raised by the students pertaining to the core topic.

The session was a success by virtue of continuous guidance given by Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Suri, Director – UIM, and the ardent efforts of the members of HR Club. The webinar concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr. Deepti Sharma on behalf of all the members of the HR Club and all the participants who proved to be dedicated listeners.
