Guest Lecture on “Variation of Atmospheric Parameters and Its Impact on Weather and Climate”

The Department of Physics under the aegis of the School of Applied and Life Sciences, Uttaranchal University organized a guest lecture for the students of BSc (Hons) Physics and MSc Physics on the topic “Variation of Atmospheric Parameters and Its Impact on Weather and Climate” on 6 December 2022.

The Resource person was Dr Alok Sagar Gautam. He is one of the Prominent Young Researchers in the Department of Physics at Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University (A Central University), Srinagar, Garhwal, University, Uttarakhand. He has pursued his Ph D from “Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology” Pune and has also received the top Junior Associateship from International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Italy.

Prof (Dr) Ajay Singh, Dean, SALS and Prof (Dr) B S Rawat, and Dr Sanjeev Kimothi from R & I, welcomed the resource person. Dr Hemlata Sharma introduced the topic of the day and the guest speaker to the audience. The resource person, Dr Alok Sagar Gautam introduced students to India’s Highest Cloud Observatory (HCO) at Swami Ram Teerth Campus, HNB Garhwal University, and Srinagar Uttarakhand and explained the area of Cloud Physics/Dynamics. It will be helpful for making the assessment of the weather in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand India. His lecture was followed by a question and answer session, where he answered several interesting questions asked by first and final-year students of MSc and B Sc (Hons) Physics.

This Guest Lecture turned out to be a huge success with the support of Dr Reena Dhyani, Dr Hemlata Sharma, and Dr Narinder Kumar. The event was graced by HOD and other faculty members of the Department. About 40 students in Physics were present in the lecture.

The Guest lecture proved to be extremely beneficial and informative for the students and helped them to gather information about the atmospheric parameters and cloud dynamics in Srinagar, Garhwal valley. The students extended their gratitude to the department for facilitating the organization of the lecture.
