An Industrial Visit to ‘Chibro Power House’ of “UJVNL Limited” followed by an excursion to Dakpathar Barrage was organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Uttaranchal Institute of Technology on 26th February, 2019. Thirty six students were accompanied by two faculty members namely, Mr. Ravi Batra and Mr. Saurabh Aggarwal. The visit aimed to understand the technologies used in Hydro Electric Power Industry.
The Assistant Engineer of “Chibro Power House’ of “UJVNL Limited” conducted a highly informative session for the students. He described the working of Power Plant and gave brief information about Chibro Power House and Khodri Power House. The students were taken to the Eye Section of the Turbine where the Turbine Shaft was coupled to the generator. The students were informed that the power generation capacity of the Chibro Power House is 240 MW. The water released by the tail race of Chibro Power House is sent to Khodri Power House through tunnel.
The Visit concluded with a Query Session wherein the students addressed various technical questions to the Technical Head regarding Turbine, Ichari Dam and various technical issues which they faced during theoretical study of the subject.
The group also visited Dakpathar Barrage where they enjoyed the scenic view of nature and gained information about the working of the barrage.
