A National Debate was organized by Amar Ujala in collaboration with Law College Dehradun on 22nd February, 2020 on the topic “Federalism is necessary to build a strong nation.” Padmashree Leeladhar Jagudi was the Chief Guest of the day and Hon’ble Chancellor Shri Jitender Joshi was the Guest of Honour. State Head of Amar Ujala Mr. Sanjay Abhigyan was also present on the occasion. The bench of judges included Mr. Anoop Nautiyal, Dr. K.S.Randhawa and Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna. The event commenced with the lighting of lamp, invoking the blessings of Goddess Saraswati.
Principal &Dean Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna, at the outset, extended a cordial welcome to the guests. Speaking on the motion he mentioned that it was a matter of grave significance in the current scenario. Following this the debate commenced wherein 8 participants from all over the nation participated. The speakers, who spoke both for and against the topic, came up with thought provoking points.
Padmashree Leeladhar Jagudi, speaking on the occasion, shared his views on the topic debated and cast some words of wisdom from his life’s experience. A quote from his favourite poetry acquired a huge round of applause from the audience. Subsequently the winners were announced. Two Consolation Prizes along with a cash prize of Rs. 3000 were given to Rajendra Kumar and Rahul Kumar, Deeraj Kaushal bagged the Third Prize receiving an amount of Rs.5000. The First Runner-Up was Usha Pandey while Sakshi Badoni emerged as the Winner of the Debate receiving a cash prizes of Rs. 7000 and 11000 respectively.
It was a successful endeavour by ‘Amar Ujala’ which provided a good exposure to a range of talented debaters across the nation.
