Law College Dehradun organizes “Intramural Debate Competition- 2019”

Law College Dehradun organized its “Intramural Debate Competition” on 18th October, 2019 under the aegis of Aarambh – The Debating Society. The debate was held bilingually on the topic“Strict Law against Mob Lynching is the Need of the Hour”. The event was marked by the benign presence of Dr. Abhishek Joshi, Director – Student Affairs and IT Services as the Chief Guest. Mr. Kumar Ashutosh, Dr. Lakshmi Priya formed the esteemed jury of the competition.

The event commenced with the lighting of lamp by the dignitaries and judges. A total of 14 Speakers presented their debate and moved the crowd with their eloquent and vibrant speeches. The participants displayed their splendid oratorical and argumentative skills in a logical way. Those speaking for the motion strongly argued that a stringent law is quintessential to prevent mob lynching. However the same was opposed by some of the opponents who advocated and emphasized that social awareness is needed to tackle the problem. Eventually after witnessing the war of words the judges declared Parth Narayan Singh and Ishu Bhardwaj as best Hindi and English Speaker respectively.

Speaking on the occasion Chief Guest Dr. Abhishek Joshi heaped praise on the organizers of the competition and remarked that such Debating Competitions serve as a solid platform for the students to exhibit their oratory skills. He also stated that the patriarchal belief, caste atrocities, child lifting and cow-trade imbibed in the society is the root cause that incites mob lynching. Dr. Abhishek also opined that it is the state of mind of the people that has to be changed along with implementation of stringent laws.

Principal and Dean Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna wholeheartedly commended the performance of the participants. He quantified “Strict enforcement of existing laws and increased social awareness might prove instrumental in curbing mob violence”. Mob Lynching, a heinous crime, is a big question on the largest democratic nation of the world and it is vital to eradicate the issues which fuel such incidence.

Eventually the event came to an end with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms. Ananya, Convener – Debating Society.
