B.Sc. (Hons.) Chemistry

The field of Chemistry is commonly referred to as ‘The Science of Matter’. This field of pure science provides an ideal platform to the students to explore various facets of Chemistry. It also exposes students to technological achievements in the field of Applied Chemical Sciences and Environment.  Courses in the field of Chemistry are being offered in UG, PG and Ph.D. programmes running from the School of Applied and Life Sciences. Courses of Engineering Chemistry and Environmental Studies are being offered to engineering students as well, while Course of Environmental Sciences is offered to all B. Sc programs.

About the Program:

 B.Sc. (Hons.) Chemistry is a 3 years program and deals with in-depth study of various areas of Organic, Inorganic, Physical and Analytical Chemistry. Spectroscopic Techniques, Nanotechnology, Total Quality Management and Environment and Green Chemistry are some other courses being taught apart from Interdisciplinary courses like, Computer Applications, Mathematics, Environmental Sciences and Humanities. These Programs provide the knowledge of Chemical Science & Environment which is beneficial for the students in the field of Research and Development. Industrial visits, Workshops, seminars conferences etc are some of the pedagogical activities of the discipline apart from programme curriculum.

Career Prospects:

There are various career options for candidates with B.Sc. (Hons.) degree in Chemistry in different organizations/sectors. One can work as Chemists, Clinical Researchers, Specialists and Pharmacists, manufacturing and processing firms, petroleum companies, pharmaceutical companies, power generating companies, health care and industrial laboratories. After completion of course the student is eligible to appear in various competitive examinations and pursue higher studies.

Admission Procedure:
  • The admission is based on merit, computed on the basis of marks secured in qualifying examination. University also conducts interviews of all applicants before admitting the eligible candidates.
  • Out of the total intake, 40% seats are allotted to students of Uttarakhand under the State Quota and the rest are open to students from all India. In case the allotted percentage of seats of State Quota remains vacant, it will be filled by All India students.
