A workshop on “Data Analysis using MS-Excel” was organized by Department of Mathematics, Uttaranchal College of Applied and Life Sciences, Uttaranchal University on 18th November 2016. The main objective of this one-day workshop was focused to analyze data using Microsoft Excel tools and formulae.
The event proceeded with the lighting of the auspicious lamp by Hon’ble Chancellor Shri Jitender Joshi, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) S.C. Joshi, Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh (Principal, UCALS), Dr. V.K. Srivastava, Dr. T.S. Chauhan and Dr. P.K. Sharma.
Dr. V.K. Srivastava (Head, Department of Mathematics) welcomed the dignitaries including Dr. T.S. Chauhan (Associate Professor, Bareilly College, Bareilly), Dr. P.K. Sharma (Associate Professor, DAV PG College, Dehradun) and introduced the guests to the students. Mr. Atma Nand emphasized upon the importance of conducting such events for the students. About 75 students participated in this event.
As per Dr. T.S. Chauhan a pivot table is a summary table that lets you count, average, sum, and perform other calculations according to the reference feature you have selected i.e. It converts a data table to an inference table which helps us to make decisions.
Dr. P.K. Sharma gave his expert talk on data cleaning. Remove duplicate values: Excel has inbuilt feature to remove duplicate values from a table. It removes the duplicate values from given table based on selected columns i.e., if you have selected two columns then it searches for duplicate value having same combination of both columns data.
According to him keyboard shortcuts are the best way to navigate cells or enter formulas more quickly.
Experts initiated presentations with basic concepts of MS Excel and mathematical tools and techniques using Excel formulae in solving mathematical and statistical calculations for data analysis and interpretation. They imparted the working knowledge of different tools and techniques of MS. Excel in data analysis and interpretation. The seminar turned out to be a huge success with active support of Dr. Tarun Kumar Gupta, Dr. Ajay Kumar, Dr. Anu Sayal and Ms. Dipika Saxena.
