Women Cell of Uttaranchal Institute of Management organizes a Debate Competition on the topic “When attempting to create a more harmonious society, gender is a more important factor than class or income”

Women Cell of Uttaranchal Institute of Management organized a Debate Competition on the topic “When attempting to create a more harmonious society, gender is a more important factor than class or income” for the students of Management and IT on 2nd March, 2020.

The activity was organized and executed by Dr. Deepa Bisht (Head – Women Cell), Dr. Diksha Panwar, Mr. Shivendra Chaudhary & Mrs. Vijaylakshmi Sajwan (Members – Women Cell).

Director – UIM Dr. Pradeep Suri along with Dr. Anshul Sharma, HOD – Management and Dr. Sonal Sharma, HOD – Computer Applications graced the event with their benign presence and encouraged the teams to compete with zest and to propagate the issue of gender sensitivity and its importance in creating a more tolerable society and a better place for both the genders.

The main objective of the activity was to bring a considerable change in the behavior and instill empathy into the views that we hold about our own and the other genders. This debate competition was not just a competition but served as a formal platform to discuss the matter and spread a meaningful informational message to the society in a public meeting.

Ten students participated in the Debate Competition. They competed in pairs wherein one participant debated in favor of the topic while the other debated against the topic countering each other’s point with proper arguments. Eminent Jury included Mr. V.K. Tangri and Mr. Farman Ali. Participants were judged on the basis of content, logic, conviction, presentation skills and rebuttal.

Winners of the event were as follows:

Winner : Mr. Harsh Kumar [BBA, II Year]
First Runner Up : Ms. Shaily Bisht [B.Sc.(IT), I Year]
Second Runner Up : Tushar [BBA, II Year]
