NSS Wing of Uttaranchal University observes “International Literacy Day”

An ‘Essay Writing Competition’ was organized by the NSS Wing of Uttaranchal University marking the observance of “International Literacy Day”. This event was conceptualized by Uttaranchal Institute of Technology.

September 8th marks UNESCO’s “International Literacy Day” with the objective to turn attention on literacy in all its forms in a changing world. First held in 1966 it is now included in UN’s sustainable development goals program adopted in 2015. The day highlights and celebrates the changes and improvements being made worldwide in literacy development. Throughout the year UNESCO seeks to keep literacy high on national, regional and international agendas. Through literacy programs UNESCO aims to create a literate world and promote literacy for all.

Sixty students from all the constituent colleges of Uttaranchal University actively participated in the event. The students penned down their views on the topic “Education For All”.

Hon’ble Chancellor Shri Jitender Joshi and Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Joshi commended the idea of organizing the event and encouraged the initiation of such events in future that aimed to develop literary skills and creative cum critical thinking skills of the students.

The event was organized by Ms. Arti Rana, UIT under the guidance of the coordinator of NSS wing of the Uttaranchal University.

The jury of “Essay Writing Competition” comprised of Dr. Shriya Goyal, Dr. Sumit Chaudhary, Dr. V.K. Srivastava, Mr. Devendra Singh, Mrs. Rachna Juyal, Ms. Geetika Tamta and Ms. Renu Sharma.
