Uttaranchal Institute of Management organizes a Seminar on ‘Intellectual Property Rights’

Uttaranchal Institute of Management in collaboration with Uttarakhand Council of Science and Technology (UCOST), Dehradun organized a one-day Seminar on ‘Intellectual Property Rights’ on 27th September, 2018. Head of Department (IT), Dr. Sonal Sharma welcomed the Guest Speakers Dr. Anju Rawat, Scientist-Patent Information Centre at UCOST and Mr. Himanshu Goel, Project Scientist, Patent Information Center, UCOST along with Director UIM Prof.(Dr.) Pradeep Suri, Head – Research & Studies Prof. (Dr.) Mohd. Tariq, Faculty Members and the students.

The Seminar started with the felicitation of the Guest Speakers by Director – UIM, followed by lamp lighting by the dignitaries. Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Suri, extended a warm welcome towards the Guest Speakers and all the participants. He emphasized that the power to evolve innovations and thinking in an innovative manner can be increased by means of creating IPR awareness amongst its faculty members and students, who are directly or indirectly involved in the process of innovation. He culminated his speech by saying that deep consideration and careful thought regarding various complexities should be put in before going for IPR.

The one-day IPR Awareness Seminar aimed at establishing a basic level of IPR awareness amongst the seminar participants and increase the chances of obtaining well-protected innovation (Copyrights, Patents).The target audience comprised of all the MBA-I, MBA-II, MCA-II, MCA-III, BCA-III, BBA-III and B.Sc. IT-III Year students.

The Keynote Speaker Dr. Anju Rawat explained the various aspects of IPR including Patents, Copyrights, Trademarks, Industrial Designs, Trade Secrets and the procedure of registration for different types of IPR. Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) is concerned with the protection of tangible and intangible property. It provides material awards and recognition to the inventors and contributors for their investment. The speaker gave numerous examples to help students understand the concepts in a simple and easy manner. An awareness regarding NUNS Test (Novelty, Utility, Non-obviousness and Statutory Subject Matter) used for deciding the suitability of invention for patent was also discussed.Hence, IPR enhances motivation to disseminate scientific and technological information which in turn stimulates research and development for improvement of the quality of life.

Dr.Sonal Sharma concluded the event with a Vote of Thanks and extended her gratitude towards the Guest Speakers, distinguished dignitaries, Faculty Members and students. She urged and motivated all the Faculty Members and students to be innovative and vigilant.

The seminar was organized by Dr. Sonal Sharma (Head of Department– IT) and Dr. Himani Maheshwari (Assistant Professor).
