The Globe Club (Global Learning and Observation to Benefit the Environment Club) of Uttaranchal Institute of Management, under the aegis of Uttaranchal University, organized a Guest Lecture on the topic ‘Environmental Pollution and its Control Measures’ on15th November 2017.The lecture was delivered by Ms. Sangeeta Sundriyal. She is pursuing her Ph.D. in Environmental Science as a DST INSPIRE Fellow from Doon University, Dehradun. A large number of enthusiastic students were present in the Seminar Hall to attend the lecture.
The event was organized under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Pardeep Suri (Director-UIM). Dr. Devkant Kala (HOD-Management) and Dr. Sonal Sharma (HOD- Computer Applications) graced the occasion by their presence. The activity was supervised by Dr. Mamta Bansal (Head – Globe Club), along with the members of Globe Club.
The event was moderated by Head-Globe Club-Dr. Mamta Bansal, who invited Honorable Director, UIM to felicitate the Guest Speaker. Afterwards, Professor Suri addressed the students and urged them to come forward to make sincere efforts about environmental protection. He also thanked Ms. Sundriyal for sharing her research experiences and expertise on the topic of environmental pollution.
Ms. Sangeeta Sundriyal started her lecture by introducing the concept of environmental pollution and its various categories such as air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution and soil pollution. The lecture comprised of various aspects related to environmental pollutionand control strategies. She explained about various sources of pollution, majority of which are caused byman-madeactivities. She also gave insights about the rising pollution levels and their adverse impacts on environment as well as on public health. Ms. Sundriyal also shared useful facts about pollution and its impacts in Indian urban areas. She emphasized on the fact that environmental pollution is more than just a health issue; it is a wider social issue in that pollution has the potential to destroy homes and communities. Pollution problems are also closely tied to the mode of development in developing countries. Despite this, many developing countries either have not developed environmental pollution control measures, or have not provided adequate implementation structures to ensure that policies are effective. Finally, she explained various control measures to mitigate pollution levels and improve the air and water quality.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Bansal.
