School of Applied and Life Sciences organizes an Industrial Visit to Tata Global Beverages Ltd.

A one-day Industrial Visit to Tata Global Beverages Ltd. located in Dhaulakaun, Poanta Sahib was organized for the students of B.Sc. (Hons.) Biotechnology on 12th April, 2018. The visit was conceptualized and coordinated by Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh (Principal-SALS). Faculty members including Dr. Nishesh Sharma, Dr. Rohit Sharma and Ms. Indra Rautela accompanied the students in the visit. The group departed from the University Campus at 9 am on 12th April and reached their first destination which was Tata Global Beverages Ltd at around 10:30 am. The visit began with a warm welcome of the students by the Plant Manager followed by an Introductory Session where they were briefed about the industry, its organization, working and the products of the company.

During the session the students interacted with the Production and QC Manager, the major part of discussion dealt with the skills (academic and personal) required to pursue a career in industrial sector.

The Introductory Session was followed by a visit of the students to different departments including Production, Processing, Quality Control (Chemical & Microbiological) and Packaging. Students were introduced to the working of plant machinery and operating system. As this industry is particularly concerned with production of natural flavoured water, the students gained valuable practical knowledge about the significance of consumption of natural (purified) water as compared to processed RO water. The industry has set up its own solar plant for electricity production. Students had an additional and close look into how a solar plant is setup and works on a large scale. Besides getting an exposure to technical aspects of different departments and sections on which an industry runs students were also imparted about the managing skills required for effective production and successful marketing. Overall the visit proved to be extremely successful as students got introduced to technical, practical and managerial aspects of industry setup.

After completing the Industrial Visit the students visited the very famous and scared Gurudwara in Poanta Sahib to seek blessings of the Almighty. The visit concluded with a visit to Asan Barrage Bird Sanctuary where the students enjoyed and admired natural beauty and captured some memories of student life to be cherished for lifetime. The students along with concerned faculty members returned to the university campus by 6 pm the same day.
