School of Applied and Life Sciences organizes an Educational Tour to ONGC

An Educational Tour was organized on 20th February, 2019 by the Department of Physics, SALS, for the students of B.Sc. (Hons) Physics (II & iv Semester) to Subhir Raha Oil Museum, Tel Bhavan Complex, ONGC, Dehradun.

The students saw Foucault’s Pendulum. The students were able to understand the concept of crude oil, properties of oil, formation of oil, tectonic plates, the strata, Digboi Well, Group Gathering Station and Offshore Supply Vessel.

The students also gathered valuable information about the different aspects of oil extraction, refining and transportation; oil prospecting, geological exploration, remote sensing, seismic exploration, data processing and interpretation, tools and tackles, jack-up RIG (Sagar Joyti), rotary drilling, Christmas Tree, sucker rod pump, transportation of crude, hazards in transportation, refinery products, fractional distillation, catalytic cracking, treating and blending of crude, safety and environment protection.

It was a great exposure for UG students to become familiar with extraction, refining and transportation of oil and natural gas. They learned about the role of ONGC in the economic growth of India.

The tour was organized under the guidance of Dr. B.S.Rawat, Head – Department of Physics, who also accompanied the students along with faculty members of the department namely, Dr. Atul Bsiht, Dr. Suneeta Singh and Mr. Prateek Uniyal.
