UIPS organises One-week Faculty Development Program On “Contemporary Drug Formulation and Development Trends: Natural and Synthetic”

Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS) Uttaranchal University, Dehradun organized a 7-days Faculty Development Program from 16-22 May under the support of Prof (Dr) Vikash Jakhmola Dean UIPS, Uttaranchal University. In the FDP participants from various states like, Telangana, Bengal, Punjab and Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh. The resource persons for the 7 days were diverse in both their expertise and experience and were from recognized universities and institutions.

The inauguration of one-week FDP on “Contemporary Drug Formulation and Development Trends: Natural and Synthetic” on the 16 May 2022 was graced by the Chief Guest Speaker: Prof (Dr) Ranjit Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Shobhit University Saharanpur and Mrs Pallavi Ghildiyal, Assistant Professor, UIPS welcomed esteemed guests. Dr Ranjit Singh emphasized the need for this kind of FDP more frequently and said that these programs are very crucial in today’s fast-paced world to keep our faculty in line with the pace of development. Prof (Dr) Vikash Jakhmola, Dean UIPS heartedly thanked him for his views and also proposed that all the participants of this FDP will surely learn something of quality. After the inaugural ceremony, Mr Ravi Kumar, Assistant Professor UIPS welcomed Prof (Dr) S Vasudeva Murthy for presenting his session. Dr Murthy delivered a very crucial lecture on ‘creativity in research’. At the end of his talk Dr Amit Semwal, Head of Department UIPS proposed a formal vote of thanks to Dr. Murthy.

The theme of the 2nd day of FDP was – “Understanding of Bioresorbable polymers PLGA & PLA characteristics and their role in novel drug delivery applications.” Mrs Jyotsna Suyal, Assistant Professor UIPS welcomed the speaker of the day Dr Sundeep Chaurasia, Techno-commercial expert scientist, Innovation Pharma R&D Ashland India Pvt. Ltd. Hyderabad. Dr Chaurasia elaborately discussed the comprehensive excipient portfolio for the parenteral formulation, ViatelTM BRPs products, Quality Systems and various regulations like GMP, ISO and cGMP. At the end of his talk Dr TarunParashar, Associate Professor UIPS proposed a formal vote of thanks.

The theme of the 3rd day of FDP was “Importance of natural products in drug discovery.” Ms Shalu Verma, Assistant Professor UIPS welcomed the speaker of the day, Prof (Dr) Dharmendra Kumar, Dean Narayan Institute of Pharmacy Sasaram Bihar. He discussed the role of traditional medicines in cancer, cardiovascular diseases, viral diseases etc. On the completion of his talk Mr S P Bhatt, Associate Professor UIPS proposed a formal vote of thanks.

The theme of the 4th day of FDP was “Novel chronotherapeutic drug delivery system.” Mrs Kiran Dobhal, Associate Professor, UIPS welcomed the speaker of the day Prof (Dr) N G Raghavendra Rao, Head of Research KIPS, Delhi NCR. On the completion of the session, Dr Amit Semwal, HoD UIPS proposed a vote of thanks.

 

The theme of the 5th day of FDP was “Network pharmacology-based approach for drug discovery and development.” Mrs Nidhi Gairola, Assistant Professor, UIPS welcomed the speaker of the day Prof (Dr) Chitme Havagiray, Head, Faculty of Pharmacy DIT University Dehradun. Dr Chitme discussed the basic concepts of drug discovery, network pharmacology, and polypharmacology. On the completion of his talk Dr Tarun Parashar, Associate Professor, UIPS proposed a formal vote of thanks

The theme of the 6th day of FDP was “Drug repurposing for stroke: present and future.” Mrs Mahamedha Deorari, Assistant Professor, UIPS welcomed the speaker of the day. Prof (Dr) Pallabh Bhattacharya, NIPER Ahmedabad. Dr Bhattacharya elaborated on strategies in Neuroregeneration and potential drugs to be repurposed in stroke, the current scenario of clinical trials in eschemic stroke. On the completion of his talk Dr. Tarun Parashar, Associate Professor UIPS proposed a formal vote of thanks.

As every journey has a destination, this wonderful one-week FDP also came to its final stage of completion. In this last day session, Mr Amit Semwal, HoD Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences summarized the learning outcomes of the six days. He thanked all the esteemed speakers for their valuable time and effort in making this FDP successful. Dr Semwal also thanked Dr Vikas Jakhmola, Dean UIPS for providing constant motivation and momentum to all the coordinators of the event. He also gratefully thanked the Chancellor of Uttaranchal University Shri Jitender Joshi for providing this amazing framework and support system. He gave a heartedly thanks to the Vice-chancellor of Uttaranchal University Dr. Dharam Buddhi for encouraging the entire faculty fraternity to involve in such kinds of activities.
