School of Liberal Arts organised an awareness visit to the Kolhupani village

The Women’s Cell of the School of Liberal Arts organised an awareness visit to the Kolhupani village on 7 May 2022 to celebrate the occasion of Mother’s Day. The event was organised to sensitize the people of the underdeveloped areas to the issues of menstruating women and to make them aware of the need to maintain women’s health and hygiene. The students were flagged off by the Chancellor of the University and the Dean of the School of Liberal Arts. The students were divided into separate groups and dispersed in several directions so that they can engage in a ‘charcha’ with maximum citizens of the village. Issues such as the need for proper absorbent material, period-friendly toilets, the correct way to dispose off the waste (pads, tampons, clothes), the importance of changing the absorbent material at regular intervals were discussed. A conscious effort was put in to interact with the male members of a family so that the taboo associated with menstruation can be removed. They were made to realize the need of interacting openly with the female members of the family with regard to this issue. Faculty members Mr Komil Kumar, Dr Anubhuti Dhyani, Ms Shikha Bharti and Mr Jageshwar Ray accompanied the students to the target village. The student interacted with the people with an earnest spirit that was a reflection of their desire to bring a positive change in society. The visit was conceptualised by the women’s cell, SLA under the supervision of Prof (Dr) Shravan Kumar, Dean, SLA.
