School of Liberal Arts celebrates Earth Day

Earth Day is an annual celebration that raises awareness of the importance of long-term ecological sustainability. Our environment does so much for us, it’s time to do the same for our Earth and environment.  Mosaic, the Cultural Club of the School of Liberal Arts Arts celebrated the event on 22 April 2022 by organising a competition for creating the ‘Best out of Waste’. Seven students participated and showcased their recreated items made out of old bottles, newspapers and other waste materials. Prof (Dr) Shravan Kumar, Dean-SLA graced the event with his benign presence. He appreciated the students for their efforts to save the planet and encouraged them to be responsible global citizens. Dr Santosh Singh and Ms Anamika Thapa judged the competition based on the four criteria viz. Creativity, Utilization of the resources, Utility of the recreated items, and presentation. Sakshi Koli, BA, Sem II secured the first position for her decorative artworks made out of newspapers, Maneesha Negi, BA (H) English Sem II secured the second position for making magnificent penholders, and Jagriti, BA (H) English Sem IV secured the third position for making a statue out of waste papers and sticks. Rest of the students did very well too by making baskets, purses, and other decorative and practical items.
