Women are the primary caretakers of the children and elders in every country of the world. International research and studies demonstrate that when the economy and political organization of a society change, women take the lead in helping the family adjust to new realities and challenges.
To celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child, the Women Cell- School of Liberal Arts performed a ‘Nukkad Natak’ on October 11, 2021 at 1:30 pm near the Food Court of the University. The program was titled “बेटी का भी मान करो, बेटी का सम्मान करो” to recognize girls’ rights and the challenges they face around the world. The purpose of the celebration was to create and spread awareness on the importance of girl education, and their right to live. The objective of the event was to create awareness among the people about the importance and safety of girl children. The latent aim was to discourage the society against female foeticide, which has grappled our nation since antiquity. The performance touched upon many themes throughout, revolving mainly around the importance of girl education and women empowerment. The audience realised the need for the society to make safe spaces for young girls and women to fight for their rights as much needed to help them break barriers and carve a future for themselves. The ‘Nukkad Natak’ also highlighted the strength, love, sacrifice and courage that the women of India possess. The performance received much adulation by the spectators.
Prof (Dr) Shravan Kumar, Dean-SLA graced the occasion. The program was coordinated by Ms Swati Singh and Mr Jagheshwar Ray under the guidance of Dr Reeta Rautela, Convener, Women Cell, SLA and Dr Pinki Chugh, Member Secretary, Women Cell, SLA and all the members of Women Cell and all the faculty of SLA. Student coordinators and directors of the play were Yamini, BA(H) English and Pawan S Rawat, BA V semester. Other enthusiastic participants were Sakshi Painuly, Divya Rawat, Ankita Chauhan, Bhumika Yadav, Devagya Jain, Sosan Batul, Shruti Mehta, Sakshi Kohli, Abhay Thapa, Himanshi Mishra, Vimanyu Panwar, Smriti Gulati, Manan Gupta, Reetika, Prerna Singh, Akshat Kimothi and Khushi Singh.
