NSS Wing of Uttaranchal University celebrates ‘Yoga Day’

Since its inception in the year 2015, June 21st is celebrated as ‘The International Day of Yoga’ all over the world. This idea was proposed by our Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi. He said, “Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world, and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help in well-being.”

“International Yoga Day” was celebrated on 21st June 2017 by the students and teachers at Uttaranchal University with great enthusiasm. The activity was organized and conducted by NSS wing of the University. Students demonstrated various Asanas followed by Omkar chanting. Warm up exercises were taken up and all the students performed sitting and standing asanas, importance of these were explained simultaneously. The celebration concluded with synchronized recitation of shlokas and speech by our expert trainers. The students were encouraged to practice regular yoga to remain fit and improve concentration. Regular practice of yoga is considered surely helpful for students as well as everyone else to achieve a better life, physically, mentally and spiritually.

The students were provided yoga mattress for performing various Asanas in the campus and they were also given light refreshment. All the participants thanked the authorities warm heartedly for organizing such an activity. The authorities assured everybody that health from a holistic point of view is the top most priority of the University and it is committed to give encouragement to Indian indigenous ways of healthy living.
