A National Conference for law students was organised at the Central Hall, Parliament house by Lok Sabha Secretariat on 25th of November 2021. Uttaranchal University was represented by a team of six students from Law College Dehradun. This conference was held on the occasion of 75th Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, where India hosted young leaders from 75 democratic countries under the initiative, Gen-Next Democratic Network by Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, the Chairman of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). Sh. Om Birla, the speaker of Lok Sabha, inaugurated the event with an objective to provide a comprehensive idea about India’s rich democratic culture to the young leaders and law students of the nation. Before the commencement of the formal program one serviceman of the Indian Parliament explained the historical aspects of the Parliament and also explained how the Central Hall is connected with Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and the main library of the Parliament. The very fact that the holy hall, that is the Central Hall is where the Constitution was drafted originally by our forefathers created Goosebumps in the young solicitors present at the hall.

The formal event commenced with the speech of Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, Chairman of ICCR, followed by Mr. Kiren Rijiju, Minister of Law and Justice of India and Sh. Harivansh Narayan Singh, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. Finally, Speaker of Lok Sabha, Sh. Om Birla’s address at the central Hall was marvellous and an inspiring oration. The Plenary session on “Separation of Powers enshrined in the Constitution of India” began and was chaired by the Chairperson, Standing Committee of External Affairs and Chairperson, Standing Committee of Personnel, Public Grievance, Law and Justice.

Young solicitors from all over the nation participated in this plenary session and Ms. Niharika Jha, a representative of Law College Dehradun explained how our constitution divided powers among Legislature, Executive and Judiciary and how these 3-tiers work simultaneously. She also mentioned some important articles and landmark cases which separate powers which are enshrined in the constitution of India. Her powerful speech was lauded by the invitees, present in the Hall. It was indeed a surreal experience and a matter of pride to be seated in a place where our freedom fighters, were seated and would be a cherishable moment in the life of the budding solicitors.
