Law College Dehradun, Faculty of Uttaranchal University hosted a National Webinar on 10 March 2022, on the topic “Careers in Intellectual Property Right with Special Reference to Patent Filing”, in which Mr. Vikrant Rana, Managing Partner S.S. Rana & Co. was the keynote speaker.
Pro Vice-Chancellor & Dean Law College Dehradun Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna, Dean, Law College Dehradun, Uttaranchal University, started the webinar with a lamp lighting ceremony and introduced Mr Vikrant Rana, the day’s keynote speaker as the Managing Partner of S S Rana & Co, a leading Intellectual Property Law Firm that has been named as one of India’s top 50 Intellectual Property Lawyers by the Indian Law Journal. Besides he is a skilled litigator, enrolled as an Advocate on Record (AOR) with the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, member of international and national IP associations, an advisor to numerous Fortune 500 companies, and currently is the Co-Chair of the International Trademark Association’s Indian Global Advisory Council, and has been a member for the previous 24 years.
Mr Rana began the technical session by discussing the practical aspects of joining and working in a law firm. He further discussed the importance of internships and how they can aid in the discovery of one’s niche. He went on to say how important it is to work on pro bono matters and highlighted that law and business are inextricably linked and intellectual property is a business tool in today’s world. IP plays a critical part in the ease of doing business in India, and it has a bright future ahead of it. The fundamentals of patents, trademarks, and intellectual property were also deliberated in detail. Speaking on the emergence of intellectual property in India and how more and more startups and businesses are becoming aware of the fact, he averred that India will see a rise in this field in the coming years as we move closer to the digital age. The event came to an end with the keynote speaker taking up doubts and queries of all the participants.
