Law College Dehradun organizes a National Symposium on ‘Intellectual Property Rights’

Law College Dehradun organized a National Symposium on ‘Intellectual Property Rights in the context of Information Technology Laws’ on the 14th of September, 2019. The Chief Guest and Expert Speaker of the event was Mr. Rodney D Ryder, Advisor to Minister of Communication and Technology and a Partner with Scriboard while Mr. Piyush Joshi, Principal Associate, ANM Global Inc., was the Keynote Speaker of the day. Hon’ble Chancellor Shri. Jitender Joshi and Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Joshi presided as the distinguished guests and inaugurated the program along with the other dignitaries.

Principal & Dean Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna in his Inaugural Speech welcomed the legal luminaries and introduced them to the gathering. Mr. Rodney Ryder is a lawyer and an authority with nearly two decades of experience in Information Technology, Intellectual Property and Media Laws. He is a partner with Scriboard, a full-service law firm with an Intellectual Property, technology and media law practice. Mr. Rodney D. Ryder is also the senior partner of ANM Global. Presently the Advisor to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India on the implementation of the Information Technology Act, 2000, Mr. Ryder is an Adjunct Professor in top notch law and Management institutes of the nation. Further Speaking on Mr. Piyush Joshi, an alumnus of Law College Dehradun, is a Principal Associate in the Litigation Department of ANM Global. He deals with Trademark, Property Laws, and Insolvency Proceedings before DRT and NCLT and has provided opinions in relation to a variety of issues pertaining to trademarks, Real Estate and Consumer Law.

The symposium was divided into two Technical Sessions, wherein Mr. Ryder discussed the rise and fall of cyberspace, further enlightening the functioning and applicability of Information Technology Act, 2000 and threw light on the legal issues in ‘Cloud’ related contracts and data concerns in relation to the right to privacy of an individual. This was followed by an interactive session on Trademark and its Practical applicability in Court by Mr. Piyush Joshi. He, being an expert in the practical aspects and having hands on experience of trade mark registration and infringement, was an apt speaker to share with us the challenges & strategies of addressing implementable solutions in the field of Trademark in specific and IPR in general. The session concluded with an open discussion forum, whereby he clarified the queries and highlighted the importance of IPR in the contemporary world.

The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna, Principal, Law College Dehradun. More than 200 students of Law College Dehradun witnessed the National Symposium. The event was eminently convened by Dr. Lakshmi Priya along with the patron Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna.
