The Keynote Speaker of the day was Prof. (Dr.) Shamnad Basheer, a renowned personality, both nationally and internationally, in the field of IPR. The session began around 3:00 p.m. in the Seminar Hall of the college where Principal & Dean Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna welcomed and felicitated the Guest by presenting a memento.

Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna, in his Inaugural Address, extended a warm welcome and gratitude to Dr. Basheer for giving his consent to deliver the lecture. Following this, he gave a brief introduction about the eminent personality. Prof. Shamnad Basheer is the founder of Spicy IP & IDIA. He joined the National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), Kolkata in November 2008 as the first Ministry of Human Resource Development Chaired Professor in Intellectual Property Law. Prior to this, he was the Frank H Marks’ Visiting Associate Professor of Intellectual Property Law at the George Washington University Law School in Washington DC. He continues to be affiliated to the Oxford Intellectual Property Research Center (OIPRC), as a Research Associate.

Dr. Basheer with immense pride began the session stating that he was there to kindle them about the concepts of Intellectual Property Right rather than just giving a standard lecture on the topic. He was keen in making the session an interactive one to know the ideas and queries of the young brilliant minds of the generation. The discourse on IPR gave the students a glimpse of how Corporate Law Firms appeared as an emerging trend in the recent years. He intended to change the perspective of students and incite them to think in a little bit different way about the topic.

Dealing with the history of Intellectual Property (I.P), he elaborately discussed how it is categorized into eight Intellectual Property Rights recently. He further briefed the topic of Intellectual Property Expansion, Intellectual Overestimation and Intellectual Minimalism. This continued with an Interactive Session, wherein the students had an opportunity to clarify their queries from the expert. Eventually, Dr. Basheer ended the topic expressing his gratitude to everyone and said that he’ll look forward for another opportunity to come back.

The session was finally concluded by Ms. Deepsi Rawat, General Secretary (TRD) who gave a formal Vote of Thanks to Dr. Basheer. She also mentioned how enlightening the whole session was and how it has and will benefit them all in near future. The lecture culminated with distribution of Certificates to the participants and the recital of the National Anthem.
