Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Uttaranchal University, organised an educational field visit to Poundha, Dehradun for D Pharm I year students on 29 August 2022.
The expected outcomes of this visit were to educate and encourage the students about the role of medicinal plants and their importance. In the current scenario, about eighty percent of worldwide population relies on herbal products. The collection and authentication of medicinal plants is an important tool for research. The visit was jointly coordinated by Mr S P Bhatt, Assistant Professor and Ms Shristi Morris, Assistant Professor under the supervision of Dr. Vikash Jakhmola Dean, UIPS.
During the visit, the students collected many plant specimens like Senna, Vaska, Diplazium, Eucalyptus, Lantana, Datura, Withania somnifera, and Ricinus for their lab study purpose. Mr S P Bhatt explained in detail the taxonomic features of many plants present in the local area. Students also collected many plant specimens for herbarium. Ms Shristi Morris explained the collection time of some medicinal plants.
Students thoroughly enjoyed the visit and learned more about the technique of collection of medicinal Plants. The visit helped in inculcating scientific aptitude in the students towards plant sciences as well as caring for the environment.
