Eco-Cops- “The Home of Eco Warriors”, the Environmental Club of Uttaranchal University celebrated Ozone week from 16-23 September 2021. A series of events were organized by all the colleges of Uttaranchal University like Essay Writing Competition, Quiz, Slogan Writing Competition, Debate, Group Discussion and Poster Presentation Competition. The aim of the club is to make all the students of Uttaranchal University aware about the consequences of ozone depletion on human life on Earth and create awareness about our surroundings.  The event was inaugurated by Prof (Dr) Abhishek Joshi Director- Student Affairs & IT Services by lighting of the inaugural lamp. Prof (Dr) Ajay Singh Dean-SALS and President of Eco- Club, Prof (Dr) Mahipal Singh, Dean-SOA Prof (Dr) Bharti Ramola Coordinator, Eco- Club, Prof (Dr) Poonam Negi Treasurer, Eco- Club, Dr Rachna Juyal, SOA, Ms Madhu Kirola, UIT, Mr Gaurav Negi, UIT, Dr Sangeeta Sundriyal, UIM, Dr Tarun Parasher, UIPS, Ms Anamika Thapa, SLA, Mr Shivam Pandey, SALS, Md Kamran, SALS, Dr Sadhna Awasthi, SALS were present on the occasion along with student coordinators of all faculties of Uttaranchal University. Ozone Week celebration was a cumulative effort of all the faculty and student members of Eco- Club.

Essay Writing Competition “Ozone for life: 36 years of ozone layer protection”. Organized by School of Liberal Arts

On 16th September, 2021 School of Liberal Arts organized an Essay Writing Competition to celebrate the Ozone week , under the aegis of Environmental Club, Uttaranchal University ,Eco-Cops: “The Home of Eco Warriors” on the topic “Ozone for life:36 years of ozone layer protection”. The competition was open for the students of Uttaranchal University. Forty nine students actively participated in the competition. The rules & regulations of the essay writing competition were conveyed well in advance.

Writing of essays by students enables them to practice and perfect skills transferable throughout their learning career and into their profession. One develops the ability to read and write, think, organize ideas, and communicate in an efficient manner. It also enables students to build up a formal and organized method of writing and helps in organizing your thought on what you are learning, builds vocabulary, and a distinct writing style.

The competition was well organized with the help of student coordinators Ms Samriddhi Kandpal- BA (H) English, Semester 5 & Mr Arun Singh Negi, B A (H) English, Semester 3 under the guidance of Ms Anamika Thapa, Assistant Professor, School of Liberal Arts.

Slogan Writing Competition on the theme “Protection of Ozone Layer”, organized by School of Applied and Life Sciences, SALS.

School of Applied and Life Sciences under the aegis of Eco- Club, Uttaranchal University organized a Slogan Writing Competition on 18th September, 2021 on the occasion of “Ozone Week”. The event was a part of various events being taken place in university to raise awareness about the ozone layer and its protection. The theme of the event was “Protection of Ozone Layer”. The event was a great success and almost 40 students participating in the event

The event was co-ordinated by Mr Shivam Pandey with the help of, Md Kamran and Dr Sadhana Awasthi, Member-Eco Club with support of Keshav Sharma, Tuba Urooj and Akshat Srivastava, Soubhagya Dev, Ashita Aswal, Aakash Tyagi, Riya , Nishat, Gaur, Student Co-ordinators.

The students from different constituent colleges of Uttaranchal University participated with great enthusiasm reflecting their interest in current environmental issues. Students displayed their talent by presenting slogans written very artistically. They also explained their creation.

Inter-collegiate quiz competition on the theme “Understanding our environment” organized by Globe club Uttaranchal Institute of Management.

The Globe (Global Learning and Observation to Benefit the Environment) Club of Uttaranchal Institute of Management, under the aegis of Environmental Club of Uttaranchal University ‘Eco-cops: The home of eco-warriors’, organized an inter-college quiz competition on Ozone Week on the theme “Understanding our environment” on 20th September 2021. The objective of this quiz competition was to make the students understand the importance of Ozone layer, environmental sustainability, and create awareness to protect the environment from degradation.

The event was coordinated by Dr Sangeeta Sundriyal, Mr Rohit Dhiman, Head-Globe Club, Dr Sunil Shukla, Member- Globe Club, Mr Deepak Tyagi, Member- Globe Club, Ms Sonakshi Bhatia, Member- Globe Club, Dr Mayank Pant, Member- Globe Club. Ms Aarti Jangra, Student Coordinator and other volunteers Bharat Negi, Falguni Viswas, Avantika Kumar, Aagman, Abhishek, Manish Negi, Manish Kumar, Arpit executed the event very efficiently. 

The students from six constituent colleges of Uttaranchal University participated in the quiz competition on 20th September 2021. All the teams participated with full enthusiasm which shows their interest in current environmental issues.

Group Discussion on “Covid-19: A Boon or a Bane for the Environment” organized by Uttaranchal Institute of Technology under the aegis of Uttaranchal University’s eco-club, Eco-Cops – ‘the home of eco-warriors’, Uttaranchal Institute of Technology organized a group discussion Competition on the topic “Covid-19: A Boon or a Bane for the Environment” competition as a part of ozone week celebration on 21st of September, 2021.

Prof (Dr) Ajay Singh, President of Eco Club, Prof (Dr) S D Pandey, Dean-UIT Prof (Dr) Bharti Ramola, Coordinator Eco Club, graced the event by their presence. The event began with some inspirational words by Prof (Dr) S D Pandey, Dean UIT, Uttaranchal University, for the participants followed by a self-introduction by all the participants.

Himanshi Negi explained the various rules and guidelines to the participants. The discussion was initiated by team UIT who put forward the positive impacts of the pandemic period including lowering of pollution levels. Team LCD put forward some statistics regarding the negative impacts of the pandemic including the effect it had on the country’s economy and how it put the country behind for years of development. Team SALS shared how the pandemic caused the need for sustainable development to be even more significant while Team SLA mentioned how the lockdown period led to the spiritual growth of people and gave them time to develop a better understanding of the need for saving the environment. 

The discussion carried on for 45 minutes with various points put forward by every participant team. At the end of the discussion, Dr Pinky Chugh shared her valuable insights regarding the performance of all participants. After a brief discussion among the judges the results were announced.

The event was judged by Dr Pinky Chugh, Mrs Madhu Kirola, and Mr Gaurav Negi.

The event was hosted and coordinated by faculty coordinators Mrs Madhu Kirola , and Mr Gaurav Negi with student coordinators Soubhagya Kishan Dev, Ashita Aswal, Akash Tyagi, Hanaah Mihekaa, Himanshi Negi, and Yash Adhikari of UIT. A total of 7 teams with 5 members each, represented different colleges of Uttaranchal University in this competition. The event ended with a vote of thanks by Hanaah Mihekaa.

Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences under the aegis of Environmental Club, Uttaranchal University, Eco-cops- “The home of Eco Warriors” celebrated Ozone Week (16th September-23rd September 2021) by organizing an inter college poster competition on the theme “Effect of Ozone Depletion” on 22nd September 2021.  

The event aimed at creating awareness about the impending need of protecting ozone layer and environment. Participants narrated about the importance of ozone layer protection and showcased their artistic and designed thought provoking and beautiful posters.

The event was organized and coordinated by Dr Tarun Parashar with the assistance of Dr Bharti Ramola, Coordinator-Eco Club, Uttaranchal University and Dr Poonam Negi, Treasurer – Eco club, Uttaranchal University. The student coordinators of Eco club Mr Rakshit Gupta, Ms Vanshika Khare and Mr Ritesh Jha actively helped in the coordination of the event. 

The judges of the event were Prof (Dr) Ajay Singh, Dean-SALS, President – Eco club, Uttaranchal University and Prof (Dr) Vikash Jakhmola, Dean-UIPS. The rubrics for judgment were on the basis of relevance to the theme, accuracy and clarity of message, neatness, colour combination and overall presentation. 40 students participated in the Poster Making Competition. The following students bagged the First, second and third position in the poster making competition:

School of Agriculture (SOA) organized Debate Competition on 23rd September 2021 under the aegis of Eco Club, Uttaranchal University, Dehradun. This event was scheduled under celebration of Ozone Week on the topic ‘Is today’s lifestyle responsible for the climate change?’ Students from all programmes participated in the event. They gave their views in the favour and against of the motion by illustrating with the help of facts and figures. Mr Amit Bhatt, Er Raja Joshi and Dr Neha Saini were present to judge the event. Winners were declared after compilation. Ms Nishat and Ms Riya Thapa compared the event and briefed about the rules. At the end Dr Rachna Juyal proposed the vote of thanks.

Dean and HoD, SOA appreciated the effort of everyone and persuaded all to plan more such events in future. Winners of the competition were as follows:
