Eco- Club of Uttaranchal University Celebrates ‘Himalaya Diwas’

School of Applied and Life Sciences celebrated ‘Himalaya Diwas’ on 10th September, 2018. ‘Himalaya Diwas’ is officially celebrated on 9th September every year across the state of Uttarakhand to spread the message of conservation of the Himalayan ecosystems.

According to research, more than 50 lakh water resources of the state are under threat. Springs in the state are drying up which will have adverse impact on the people of the region. Therefore, it is very important to understand the role of Himalayas in preserving the ecosystem of the region.

The Eco-Cops, members of the Eco-Club of Uttaranchal University, conducted an awareness drive for the students of the University. Students participated in a Poster Presentation Competition and depicted their perception of the “Mighty Himalayas”. They created informative posters which were a visual delight. Eco-Cops of various constituent colleges of Uttaranchal University participated in the event.

The event was judged by Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh, Principal – SALS and Dr. V.K. Srivastava, Head – Department of Mathematics. The students explained their creations and answered the queries of the judges. Dr. Ajay Singh appreciated the efforts of the students in depicting various aspects related to the Himalayan Ranges. Dr. Srivastava also appreciated the use of sand, colors, thermocol and other materials to enhance the look of the posters.

The event was organized and coordinated by Dr. Bharti Ramola, Coordinator, Eco-Club, Uttaranchal University. Dr. Poonam Negi and Mr. V.K.Joshi along with student members, Aman, Gurdeep, Shruti, Rose, Abhishek, Amandeep, Faisal, Ashu, assisted in successful conduct of the event.

2nd Prize: Zubia Shaikh & Prachi [B.Sc.(Hons.) Food Technology, II Year]
3rd Prize: Monsoon Yakur & Vaibhaib Kumar [B.A.LL.B. (Hons.), I Year]
