Infrastructure – Chemistry

The laboratories are as follows:

  • Central Instrumentation lab
  • Analytical Chemistry lab
  • Engineering Chemistry Lab

The following instruments can be seen as a part of the laboratories:

Flame Photometer

A Flame Photometer is a device used to determine the concentration of certain metal ions like Na, K, Li, and Ca.

High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)

HPLC is a technique in Analytical Chemistry used to separate, identify, and quantify each component in a mixture. HPLC is also used in the production process of pharmaceutical products and research.

Ultraviolet- Visible Spectroscopy (UV-Visible) – Double Beam

UV-Visible Spectroscopy is used in Analytical Chemistry for the quantitative determination of different analytes, such as transition metal ions, highly conjugated organic compounds, and biological macromolecules. Spectroscopic Analysis is commonly carried out in solutions but solids and gases may also be studied.

Sonicator

Sonicator  can be used for the production of nanoparticles, such as Nano emulsions, nanocrystals, liposomes and wax emulsions, as well as for wastewater purification, degassing, extraction of plant oil, extraction of anthocyanins and antioxidants, production of biofuels, crude oil desulphurization, cell disruption, polymer and epoxy processing, adhesive thinning, and many other processes. It is applied in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, water, food, ink, paints, coatings, wood treatment, metalworking, nanocomposite, pesticides, fuel, wood products and many other industries.

Pensky Martin Apparatus

This apparatus is used to find the Flash & Fire Point of lubricants like Biofuel, Biodiesel, Mineral Oil and Petroleum Oil, etc.

Lyophilizer

Lyophilizer facilitates dehydration process and is typically used to preserve a perishable material, make the material more convenient for transport, freeze-dry to make them more stable or make them easier to dissolve in water for subsequent use. Lyophilizer is used in Pharmaceuticals, Food Industry, and Chemical Industry, etc.

Dissolution Rate Test Apparatus

Dissolution Rate Test Apparatus is suitable for the testing of dissolution rate of tablet and capsules.

Redwood Viscometer 1 & 2

Redwood Viscometer is used to determine the Kinematic Viscosity of the lubricants like Biofuel, Biodiesel, Mineral Oil, Petroleum Oil, etc.

Muffle Furnace

Muffle Furnace is a furnace in which the subject material is isolated from the fuel with all the products of combustion, including gases and flying ash.

UV Spectrophotometer - Single Beam

UV Spectrophotometer – Single Beam

It is used in Analytical Chemistry for the quantitative determination of different analytes, such as transition metal ions, highly conjugated organic compounds, and biological macromolecules. Spectroscopic Analysis is commonly carried out in solutions but solids and gases may also be studied.

Fermenter

A Fermenter is an enclosed and sterilised vessel that maintains optimal conditions for the growth of a microorganism. The products can be collected from a fermenter after a fixed amount of time. In batch cultivation, the microorganism goes through all the stages of growth prior to the collection of product. In continuous cultivation, the microorganism is maintained at a peak rate of growth (exponential phase).

Ion Exchanger

Ion Exchanger

Ion Exchanger exchanges the ions between two electrolytes or between an electrolyte solution and a complex. In most cases the term is used to denote the processes of purification, separation, and decontamination of aqueous.
